Halo Remake Launch Issues Lock Xbox Fans Out Of Early Access

Halo Remake Launch Issues Lock Xbox Fans Out Of Early Access

Halo: Campaign Evolved is now live for everyone who purchased the $70 Digital Premium Edition. Unfortunately, not all of those people are actually able to play right now, as fans on Xbox and Steam face various issues including apparent server outages.

Early Access started today, July 23, with the full game opening up to owners of the $50 standard edition, as well as Game Pass subscribers, on July 28. That five-day head start will let long-time fans play through the 2001 Xbox launch game via online cross-play, but only if they can open the game and log into their Microsoft account, something more than a few people have had trouble with.

One problem is fans who are being told by the game that it’s not out yet. That seems to mainly be affecting Game Pass subscribers who bought the standalone $20 Premium Upgrade for early access. Other players on Steam are having trouble getting the game to boot and have to go through some annoying steps, including disabling the digital story and art book collection, to bypass the issue.

“Appreciate you guys acknowledging the issue, but this seems to be pretty much ALL players who have the Premium Edition / Upgrade, not ‘some,’” one person complained. “Hopefully you guys do the right thing and offer some form of compensation for those affected.” Another wrote, “Bro, I changed my work schedule for this.”

That’d be great if it worked. I purchased the premium, but it won’t let me boot it up.

Can we sort ourselves out, please?

Or can we get out the pocketbook and start issuing refunds @asha_shar ? pic.twitter.com/zMhntPamp9

The Steam issue appears to have been quickly resolved, but problems on the Xbox side persist. “We’re investigating reports that some players on XBOX consoles and the XBOX app for PC who purchased the #HaloCE Premium Edition or Premium Edition Upgrade are unable to access the game,” the game’s official support channel wrote on X. “We will share updates as soon as more information is available. Thank you for your patience.”

To add insult to injury, the Xbox servers themselves, which players on all platforms have to log into in order to play the Halo remake, are also being wobbly. It’s also impacting people who aren’t even trying to play Halo. Players trying to participate in a The Gilded Ruin Camo Challenge for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 are particularly miffed.

“We are aware that some users are encountering errors when attempting to connect to Xbox services and features,” the broader Xbox support channel stated. “Our engineers are actively working to mitigate the issue. We’ll update as soon as we have more—keep an eye on.”

In the meantime, initial reviews for Halo: Campaign Evolved on Steam have been less than glowing. “Login failed,” one person wrote. “Cannot play the single player game as servers are overloaded. Screw your DRM. Combat was not evolved.”
