In celebration of completing a major in-game event, Arrowhead Game Studios revealed a new commemorative cape that all Helldivers 2 players can now wear completely for free. As one of Sony’s successful live-service games, Helldivers 2 has continued to evolve and change over the course of its nearly two years, with developer Arrowhead Game Studios occasionally rewarding players for their time and efforts in-game as well.
It hasn’t always been a smooth road for Helldivers 2, even after seeing a lot of success and eventually launching on Xbox back in August. In fact, Arrowhead has been working to better optimize the game and fix many of its current issues, with the game director even admitting that Helldivers 2 was beginning to break at the seams. Still, the studio continues to push out new content, including a new cosmetic cape that players can wear immediately.

Helldivers 2 Hands Out New Commemorative Cape for Players
In a post on social media, Arrowhead Game Studios revealed that a new commemorative cape was being issued to players following the liberation of the original Hive World planet of Oshaune following Helldivers 2‘s Into the Unjust update. The Black and Orange cape appears to feature the Helldiver icon inside of what appears to be an arrow pointing down, referencing that these Hive Worlds forced players to fight underground against new foes.
The event itself, which kicked off with the Into the Unjust update back in September, saw the arrival of Hive Worlds, including the first one on Oshaune. Players were tasked with destroying “Hive Lungs” while also dealing with 4 new species of terminids including the Dragonroach and the fearsome Hive Lord. Initially, many players were skeptical of the new Helldivers 2 Terminid bugs, but were able to ultimately overcome them and take back the planet.
The good news is that the cape is available now for interested players. Simply use the Armory console within the Super Destroyer to find it. There are a few catches with this reward, however. First, some players are reporting that the cape isn’t appearing as expected, so even though the social media post indicates that it can be worn immediately, there could be a rollout process happening. While not officially stated, players are also indicating that the cape appears to only be available for people who logged in during the liberation of Oshaune event from September 2 to November 4.
Issuing capes to mark significant occasions in Helldivers 2 has become somewhat of a staple for Arrowhead Game Studios, as players have already been awarded with a handful. While many of them reference a big in-game event like the Ingress-81 cape, one in particular was issued based on a major real world event that Helldivers 2 saw in its first year. The Pillars of Freedom cape marks the PSN Account controversy, when Sony attempted to force PC players to create and sign in to an account in order to play. After much frustration and review bombing, Sony walked back its plans, resulting in the community essentially reverse review bombing the game to get its rating back up.
