In an effort to keep the community up to date, Arrowhead Game Studios reveals some of the big features and improvements coming to Helldivers 2 inside of the next major update. After a tough end to 2025, which was filled with fan frustrations over both technical and performance-related issues, Arrowhead is charting a new course to hopefully improve things for Helldivers 2 players going forward. For the studio, that starts with communication with players.
To help set expectations for the rest of 2026 and beyond, Arrowhead released a blog post indicating the studio would be relying on more communication with players, especially when it comes to game changes. The post then tackled some of the biggest burning questions with Helldivers 2, including avoiding “hidden changes” in updates, additional vehicles being made available to unlock through gameplay and not DLC, as well as making the Galactic War more rewarding. Either way, it appears that fans have entered a whole new era of Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2 Update Adds New Content and Makes Major Balance Changes
Arrowhead Game Studios releases Machinery of Oppression update for Helldivers 2, adding new content while also making major balance changes.
Helldivers 2 Reveals Big New Features
Sticking to its promise, Arrowhead released another new blog to continue the dialog about what’s on the horizon for Helldivers 2. This time, Arrowhead is announcing the arrival of a number of enhancements for the game, one of which has been highly requested by the community. The aim is to include these improvements inside the May 27 update, with a focus on enhancing game stability, reducing latency, and keeping performance consistent. To help achieve these goals, Arrowhead partnered with Sony’s port specialist studio Nixxes.

Noting how popular the topic was on Reddit, Arrowhead confirmed that it is including visual upscaling options across all platforms. The technology ensures improved visual clarity without hindering game performance. PC users will have two options based on their setup from FSR (High-End): 4.0.3 (on supported GPUs) to FSR 3.1.5, DLSS 4.5, and XeSS 3.0 support. PS5 Pro users will be utilizing Sony’s PSSR technology, while base PS5 users and Xbox Series X users have FSR 3.1.
Next up was the topic of Advanced Visual Optimizations and how to further smooth out the gameplay experience while optimizing the GPU workload. Specifically, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is now supported on both the base PS5 and PS5 Pro to help reduce stuttering and screen tearing. Similarly, all platforms are being integrated with Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS) for a stable frame rate, with boosted resolutions for the Performance preset on Xbox and PlayStation. Finally, Variable Rate Shading (VRS) is being added to further help visual clarity under demanding performance moments.
Finally, Arrowhead has managed to find ways to reduce latency even during high stress gameplay moments. For NVIDIA GPUs, Helldivers 2 will utilize NVIDIA Reflex, while AMD GPUs will be using AMD Anti-Lag 2. Again, Arrowhead is planning to release these improvements with the May 27 update.

However, that wasn’t the end of the blog. Arrowhead ended the post by reconfirming that all of this was just a beginning and the studio would continue to observe all platforms, hardware configurations, and player feedback to continue making tweaks as needed. Considering how bad Helldivers 2 became from a technical standpoint, with the game director even admitting it was coming apart at the seems, it appears that Arrowhead isn’t interested in suffering from similar issues going forward.
