Highguard Website is Down Right Now

Highguard, the recently released free-to-play raid shooter, seems to be stumbling toward a permanent exit. Fans noticed earlier today that the game’s official landing page has vanished, replaced by a cold, static screen. This technical blackout is the latest in a series of unfortunate events for developer Wildlight Entertainment, and many players are now convinced that Highguard is being pulled offline for good.

This situation follows a very rocky road for the studio. Wildlight first showed off the title as a “one last thing” surprise during the 2025 Game Awards back in December. While the developers expected a warm welcome, the reaction was almost instantly cold. Many viewers labeled the game as generic, questioning if the market really needed another online-only shooter. Despite a period of silence that followed the reveal, the game did manage to find an audience at first, though that interest proved to be incredibly short-lived.

Highguard Developer Hit With Mass Layoffs Less Than a Month After the Game’s Release

Wildlight Entertainment reveals some bad news for Highguard and its development team less than a month after the game’s controversial launch.

Official Site Goes Dark Amid Shutdown Rumors

The current panic started when the official URL, PlayHighguard.com, stopped working correctly. Rebs Gaming and others noticed the Highguard site has been replaced by a simple message stating, “This site is currently unavailable.” There is no longer any information about the game, its world, or its features—only the game’s logo and a support email address for technical questions. Reports suggest the site has been in this state since early Monday morning, and so far, Wildlight Entertainment has stayed silent on social media.

While it is technically possible that the studio is just switching servers or updating its web presence, the timing makes fans very nervous. In the world of live-service games, a disappearing website is often the first sign that a publisher is getting ready to turn off the lights. Without an official statement to clear the air, the community is left guessing if their progress and in-game purchases are about to disappear forever.

The reason fans are so quick to assume the worst is Highguard’s historically bad performance. When it arrived in January, it actually looked like a hit, peaking at around 97,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, Highguard’s number crashed by nearly 99% in just a few weeks. Within 48 hours of going live, most of the initial crowd had already moved on to other games.

Wildlight tried to save Highguard by adding a new 5v5 mode and various balance patches, but nothing seemed to work. By early February, the peak player count had dropped to a mere 1,600 people. This massive “player drain” made it nearly impossible for the game to make enough money through its cosmetic shop to stay afloat. The situation became even more dire on February 11, when Wildlight Entertainment laid off a huge portion of its staff, leaving only a small “core group” behind to keep the game running.

The quick decline of Highguard has drawn many comparisons to other high-profile failures like Concord. Industry experts are pointing out a pattern where expensive online shooters fail to grab a foothold in a crowded market and are shut down within months of release. The fact that Wildlight had previously claimed they didn’t need huge numbers to succeed now looks like a lack of a backup plan for when things went south.

For the few players who are still logging in, the main concern is what happens to their money. Since the game is free-to-play, revenue comes entirely from microtransactions. If the game follows the path of other recent shutdowns, players might be left wondering if they will receive refunds for their digital items. As of now, the “Concord timeline” meme is spreading across platforms like Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), placing Highguard in a list of games that died almost as soon as they were born.
