How To Build And Use The Dive Elevator In Subnautica 2

Subnautica 2 brings back many of the same tools and objects from the first two games in the series, but the Dive Elevator is one of the brand new additions. This is among the most intriguing objects you can build in Subnautica 2, as it allows you much quicker access to lower depths in the ocean. However, before you can figure out how to use the Dive Elevator, you’ll have to unlock its crafting recipe.

Below, you can see where to find its blueprints, its crafting recipe, and the best way to use the Dive Elevator in Subnautica 2.

Dive Elevator blueprint locations in Subnautica 2

To unlock the Dive Elevator, you have to scan two of its blueprints, which are located relatively close to the starting lifepod. You can follow the directions below to scan both of the Dive Elevator blueprints:

  • The first Dive Elevator blueprint is located in the wreck directly adjacent to the Welcome Center, which is found around 105 meters southwest of the lifepod. The Dive Elevator blueprint is submerged in rock near the cliff of the wreck.
  • Next, you need to travel around 300 meters south/southeast of the lifepod to find a shipwreck 45 meters below the surface. In the shipwreck’s salvage, you’ll find the Dive Elevator blueprint right in the middle of the wreck, in some rocks.

How to craft the Dive Elevator in Subnautica 2

With the two pieces of Dive Elevator scanned, you also need to have the Habitat Builder unlocked so you can construct the Dive Elevator, as it’s not something you craft at a Fabricator.

With your Habitat Builder, open the menu by right-clicking on your mouse and navigate to the “Utility” tab. Here, you can build the Dive Elevator with the following resources:

  • 4x Titanium
  • 2x Copper
  • 2x Quartz

These are among the three easiest resources to find in Subnautica 2, so you shouldn’t have much trouble cobbling them together. However, if you’re struggling, Quartz is mainly found in and around coral formations, while Copper and Titanium are located on the ground and inside caves.

How to use the Dive Elevator in Subnautica 2

If you have all of the resources for the Dive Elevator, it’s time to craft it. However, the Dive Elevator works best when it’s placed in a specific spot on the map. The way the object works is that it allows you to quickly ascend and descend between two points. To do this, you simply grab onto the handle of the elevator and you’ll start moving.

Ideally, you’ll place the Dive Elevator above a large drop-off in the map, allowing you to instantly descend to lower depths without having to swim or take your Tadpole. The Dive Elevator can take you 25 meters down, but you can stack multiple Dive Elevators on top of or below one another to descend as low as you want.

Let’s assume you want to descend to roughly 200-250 meters down to the ocean floor in Subnautica 2. You’ll need to build several Dive Elevators to reach that depth, but you can simply use your previous Dive Elevators to descend, build another one, go up for oxygen, and keep repeating the process until you’ve reached the floor.

While you might want to build your Dive Elevator in any spot where there’s a steep drop-off, you’ll ideally want to scout an area first. The best use of the Dive Elevator in Subnautica 2 is making it a quick way to farm resources that would otherwise take you several minutes to haul back and forth between your base.

If you go down to the lower depths of the ocean, find an area that’s plentiful with resources, such as mineral outcrops or plants. Then, ascend and build your Dive Elevators right over the top of that area. Now, you can quickly access those resources and transfer them more quickly to your base.

Of course, the Dive Elevator can also be used to reach important locations faster or as a joyride to see if you can encounter any leviathans in the lower depths of Proteus. In any case, you now know exactly how to build and use the object in Subnautica 2.
