Gran Turismo 7 Officially Confirms New Release For August 2026

Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 7 has confirmed a new update for August 2026, with four additional cars set to join the racing game’s extensive vehicle lineup. Since its launch in 2022, Gran Turismo 7 has continued to receive free cars, races, and additional content for over four years.

The upcoming release will be Gran Turismo 7‘s first content drop in more than two months, marking one of the longer periods since fans last saw something new. Update 1.70 arrived on June 11 with a strong emphasis on endurance racing, adding the BMW M Hybrid V8 ’25, Ferrari 499P ’23, Peugeot 9X8 ’25, Porsche 963 ’24, and Porsche 911 Turbo S Safety Car. It also introduced new World Circuits races, an Extra Menu, and additional Scapes content. Despite players frequently returning to Gran Turismo 7 for more content, July passed without a comparable car update, making series creator Kazunori Yamauchi’s recent tease particularly noteworthy for fans waiting for fresh vehicles.

Gran Turismo 7 Teases 4 New Cars for August Update

Yamauchi confirmed the upcoming Gran Turismo 7 update on August 9 via Twitter, describing the new additions as including some particularly “niche cars” and noting it would launch sometime next week. As usual, the teaser deliberately hides most identifying details, leaving the Gran Turismo community to identify the vehicles from their silhouettes. Current chatter across GT fan boards and websites points toward the Toyota Chaser Tourer V, Toyota Mark 2 Tourer V, Hyundai IONIQ 6 N, and Caterham Seven Superlight R500 as potential additions. None of those models have been formally confirmed by Polyphony Digital, however, so the lineup could differ when the full patch is revealed.

If the community’s guesses are accurate, the two Toyotas would bring a pair of enthusiast favorites back into the spotlight. The Chaser Tourer V and Mark 2 Tourer V are particularly well known for their rear-wheel-drive layouts, turbocharged 1JZ engines, and popularity in drifting circles, with a 1998 JZX100 Chaser even appearing in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Both names also have history with the Gran Turismo series, making their potential return especially notable for longtime fans.

The remaining silhouettes appear to point toward the Hyundai IONIQ 6 N and Caterham Seven Superlight R500, which would make Gran Turismo 7‘s August selection considerably more eclectic. Hyundai’s high-performance electric sedan would represent the modern end of the spectrum, while the lightweight Caterham would offer a far more stripped-back and retro racing experience. Caterham last appeared in the series through the Seven Fireblade in 2013’s Gran Turismo 6, making its potential return the brand’s first appearance in more than a decade. Combined with two 1990s Japanese performance sedans, the rumored lineup would certainly fit Yamauchi’s description of the update as containing some more “niche” choices.

As of now, Polyphony Digital has not yet detailed whether the August content drop will include new races, Café content, engine swaps, Scapes, or other additions alongside the four cars. Those details typically arrive closer to release, meaning the vehicle teaser is likely only the first part of the announcement. With the next update now officially confirmed for August, Gran Turismo 7 players should not have to wait much longer to learn exactly which cars are joining the garage.
