How To Get Past The Heat Barrier In Subnautica 2

If you travel roughly 250 meters away from the starting lifepod in Subnautica 2, you’ll encounter a new biome that looks like an underwater desert. While you might be tempted to explore this biome, you’ll get a message from your PDA that tells you to stop immediately. This biome has an extremely high temperature, and you’ll receive a heat warning as soon as you get too close to it.

Naturally, with map space being so limited in early access of Subnautica 2, you’ll want to equip whatever equipment is necessary to explore this new area. We’ll show you what you need and how to get it so you won’t see another heat warning again.

How to survive in hotter temperatures in Subnautica 2

Normally, the waters around the lifepod in Subnautica 2 are roughly 20 degrees Celsius. However, when you start to approach the hotter biome on the map, you’ll see a red half-circle with a temperature above it that reads anywhere from 30 to 80 degrees. By default in Subnautica 2, your character can’t withstand temperatures over 80 degrees, but even from 30-70 degrees, you’ll start to take damage the longer you stay in these hotter waters.

Fortunately, there’s an easy fix so you can explore this biome as freely as you want. All you need is the Heat Tolerance Adaptation, which lets you roam in waters as hot as 100 degrees. The high-temperature biome does feature temperatures above that threshold, but the Heat Tolerance Adaptation allows you to survive those temperatures for longer without taking fatal damage.

Just like the other three Adaptations in Subnautica 2, you can acquire Heat Tolerance by interacting with an Angel Comb, which equips you with a new genetic mutation to survive better on Proteus. However, in order to unlock Heat Tolerance, you need to interact with a specific Angel Comb, which is accessible after treating certain Bloom infestations around the map.

Unlocking Heat Tolerance in Subnautica 2

First and foremost, to cure Bloom infestations in Subnautica 2, you need to unlock the Sonar Resonator. This allows you to blow up Bloom Cankers and treat the infested Angel Combs at these Bloom infestation sites.

Once you have the Sonar Resonator, you’re ready to start treating Bloom infestations. However, if you want access to the Angel Comb that unlocks the Heat Tolerance Adaptation, you need to treat three specific Bloom infestations, which are found at the following locations:

  • The primary Bloom Infestation you need to clear is located 200 meters northwest of the starting lifepod. However, you also need to cure two smaller infestations, which can be found north and south of the larger Bloom site. You can find these smaller sites by following the tendrils of the Bloom branches out of the cave.
  • To clear a Bloom infestation, find three Bloom Cankers located around the central flower. Use your Sonar Resonator to blow up the cankers and be mindful of the Bloom Parasites swimming around the area.
  • Once three Bloom Cankers have been destroyed, move on to the next smaller Bloom infestation site and repeat the process.
  • After both of the smaller sites have been cleared, return to the central Bloom infestation and start destroying Bloom Cankers.
  • There is a Marrowbreach swimming around the final infestation site, so be careful of it as you’re destroying Bloom Cankers.
  • After all of the Cankers are wiped out, the central Angel Comb will open up, revealing the pink jelly flower in the center.
  • Interact with the core to unlock the Heat Tolerance Adaptation.

So, in total, you need to destroy nine Bloom Cankers across three Bloom infestations located roughly 200 meters northwest of the lifepod. You can repeat the same process to unlock the other Adaptations in Subnautica 2.

Now, you’re free to roam the high-temperature biome, but still be careful of the thermal vents located around the area, as you’ll take damage from getting too close to them.
