Do you want to obtain the Sonic Resonator and Feedback Resonator in Subnautica 2? This device and its upgrade will surely be of vital use throughout the campaign. With it, you should be able to farm a lot of minerals and, much later in the game, unlock an integral ability.
Subnautica 2 gear guide – Sonic Resonator and Feedback Resonator
By default, your character can only gather materials by hand. Shortly thereafter, you should have the Survival Multitool, which lets you smack around smaller mineral deposits. But what about larger nodes? How do you actually destroy them? Well, that’s where the Sonic Resonator comes into play.
Sonic Resonator fragment locations
The Subnautica 2 Sonic Resonator becomes available once you’ve scanned two of its fragments. Fortunately, they’re both in the same location:
- If you’re following our mini-walkthrough, you should receive an objective regarding the Quaker blackbox signal. It happens to lead you to an abandoned base known as the Old Habitat.
- The base is 420 meters north-northwest of the Lifepod. The entrance is at the back of the building on the left-hand side, assuming you’re facing the Lifepod icon.
- The first fragment is immediately to your right as you enter.
- The second fragment is on the floor in the next corridor.
Sonic Resonator crafting materials and usage
The Sonic Resonator is crafted via the Fabricator. It requires 1x Basic Battery, 2x Titanium Ingot, 2x Lead, and 1x Wiring Kit.
Once you have it, you’ll be able to break larger ore deposits, such as Titanium, Copper, Quartz, Enamel, Celestine, and more. In some cases, you might be able to stymie smaller hostile creatures by blasting them in the face.

Feedback Resonator fragment location #1
The Subnautica 2 Feedback Resonator, meanwhile, is obtained a bit later in your playthrough. Specifically, you need to make your way to the Tadpole Pens and, eventually, the Alien Ruins. Naturally, you should build a Tadpole vehicle to speed up exploration.
- Once you’re at the Alien Ruins, check the lay of the land and tackle the Iso blackbox objective first. That should net you the Bioscanner upgrade.
- Shortly thereafter, you should receive the Singh blackbox objective, which is near the Cicada Wreck (Therapy Room). It’s approximately 770 meters east-southeast of the Alien Ruins marker.
- You can scan the first fragment inside the room.

Feedback Resonator fragment location #2
The second fragment is in an area called the Metal Farms. This location has a pool with a bright green glow, as well as several enemies, including a nasty leviathan floating close to the surface.
- The metal farms is northeast of the Angel Comb–i.e. the corrupted flower near the massive alien turbine.
- The fragment is on the ground near the pools.

Feedback Resonator crafting materials and usage
After scanning both fragments, it’s time to unlock the Feedback Resonator upgrade in Subnautica 2. This is done via the Modification Station, and it requires 1x Sonic Resonator, 2x Enameled Glass, 2x Conduit Crystal, and 2x Strontium.
- Enameled Glass is a combination of Glass and Creature Enamel, which is like a gooey pump with protrusions jutting out of cliffsides.
- Conduit Crystals look like solidified seaweed. You’ll find several of them near the tendrils of the corrupted Angel Comb.
- Strontium, meanwhile, has to be manufactured via the Processor. For this recipe, you need Celestine, a light grey mineral with several deposits in the Alien Ruins biome.

This particular upgrade improves the device’s function, since it can now fire sonic projectiles. This is actually related to the fourth Adaptation ability that you can acquire. The Bloom Cankers contract if you get too close, so you have to shoot them from afar.
In any case, that does it for our guide on how to get the Sonic Resonator and Feedback Resonator in Subnautica 2. Once you’ve unlocked the fourth Angel Comb Adaptation, you’ll be able to understand extraterrestrial language. All that’s left is to activate the alien door and turbine.
Subnautica 2 is currently in early access, which means new biomes, systems, and story beats are expected to be added as part of updates. For everything you need to know about the game, you can visit our Subnautica 2 guides hub.
