With all the E3 Summer Game Fest hype this week in the gaming industry, there’s a lot of buzz around the games that could potentially get announced. Xbox is having a showcase, Nintendo might drop a surprise Direct presentation, and Sony is having an hour-long State of Play presentation that promises more gameplay for Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac, plus a ton of other surprises. They’re even putting this presentation in Alamo Drafthouse theaters, so it seems like it’ll be a pretty big deal.

What to Expect from the June State of Play
I know I might be overhyping this presentation by adding a picture of Aerith from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth here, but Square Enix has strong ties to Sony’s gaming showcase. In 2023, the actual release date for the second part of the FF7 Remake was revealed, so there’s a possibility we could see something from the third part in this hour-long showcase.
However, it’s worth noting that Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest presentation on June 5 could also include a reveal for it. Either way, it’s about time we saw a new glimpse of Cloud and the gang, considering part 2 came out over two years ago. I mean, the director has mentioned that he’s already beaten part 3 to completion multiple times, so it must be close to being done, right?
One big game we know will be shown during the June 2 State of Play is Insomniac’s Wolverine game. It’s out in the middle of September (only three more months, yay!), and we’ve yet to see a full-blown gameplay demo for it. And speaking of other PlayStation dev teams, it’s been four years since God of War: Ragnarok came out. Just what the heck is Sony Santa Monica working on? Is it God of War 3? Is it a spin-off with Faye? Is it a kart racer? Just tell us what y’all have been up to already!
And don’t hold your breath, but Naughty Dog has been hard at work making its new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. We still haven’t really seen any gameplay for this one, and it was revealed almost two years ago, so it may be time to finally show people what the team has been cooking up. Just please don’t give us another Last of Us remake -we don’t need any more.
As for other games coming to PS5 soon, here’s what could show up!
- Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls (this one is out in August, so a new character reveal or two could drum up more excitement!)
- Phantom Blade Zero (this one is out in September, and it’s a wuxia action-RPG that looks incredible so far).
- Horizon Hunters Gathering (the online Horizon spin-off has gotten mixed initial reactions, but showing off what makes it unique might help its case).
- Saros just came out, but we could see a shadow-dropped update or even an expansion.
- A new title from Bend Studio, Team Asobi, or Media Molecule.
