Hytale Update 2 Will Add Highly Requested Armor Feature

Hytale Update 2 Will Add Highly Requested Armor Feature

Only around a week has passed since Hytale launched in early access, and its second update is already on the way with a highly requested feature in tow. Since its early access release, players have been asking for developer Hypixel Studios to add a hide helm/armor feature to the game, and now studio founder Simon Collins-Laflamme has announced in a post on X that the option to do so will arrive in Hytale Update 2 later this week.

Hytale is a sandbox RPG from Hypixel Studios with features like open-ended building, exploration, and survival systems and more traditional RPG combat and progression. The game recently entered early access, with the studio using this phase of development as the foundation for a longer roadmap that includes new features, expanded content, and quality-of-life improvements shaped directly by player feedback as it moves toward a full release.

Hytale Update 2 Will Let Players Hide Their Helm and Armor

When Simon teased Hytale Update 2 in a recent post on X, the Hypixel Studios founder did so by highlighting the fact that it would allow players to hide helmets and armor on their characters. “Community asks? Community receives!” Simon said, proving the studio’s dedication to evolving the game with the help of feedback from players. In confirming that the feature would be part of the next update, Simon also noted that it would be configurable, giving server admins more control over how it works in PvP gameplay and otherwise.

An addition like this might sound like a small cosmetic tweak on the surface, but there’s a valid reason it has been one of the most consistently requested quality-of-life changes since Hytale entered early access. In the current version of the game, equipping a helmet or any piece of armor immediately overrides the character’s cosmetics—including faces, hairstyles, and outfits. This can be especially frustrating for players who purchased a specific edition of Hytale for the cosmetics it included.

Of course, as Simon pointed out, the team has obviously been aware of the issue, whether the feedback has come to them from replies and comments on social media or community forums and subreddits. In fact, Reddit user Frostiikin made a post expressing their frustration shortly after Hytale‘s early access launch, which prompted hundreds of other players to respond in agreement. Since then, it has been a common sentiment among players that Hytale‘s customization seems undermined if they can’t even see their character once they make some progress in the game.

Part of the pushback against the lack of a hide helm/armor option also comes from expectations set by other RPGs and sandbox games, many of which allow players to toggle the visibility of their character’s gear for cosmetic purposes. The ability to show off a character’s style while still retaining armor stats is almost standard in games with deep character customization, meaning Hytale is currently lagging behind what is becoming increasingly normal.

There are elements of Hytale‘s gameplay to consider, however, when it comes to why the feature didn’t exist from the start. Armor visuals convey important information in both cooperative and competitive play, as seeing what someone else is wearing helps players assess threat levels at a glance. That’s partly why Simon and the developers at Hypixel Studios have made the hide helm/armor toggle configurable at the server level, so any worlds that want strict rules on character visuals can control them.

Until Hytale Update 2 arrives, many players have turned to mods instead, letting them hide specific armor pieces while keeping their full stats intact. But with Update 2 officially on the way now, the Hytale community can look forward to an experience that is even more customizable than before.
