Eclipse Glow Games, the developer behind the highly anticipated upcoming fantasy action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation, has just confirmed that Jennifer English is stepping down from her role as main protagonist Gwendolyn. According to Eclipse Glow’s official announcement, Jennifer English is stepping away from Tides of Annihilation due to personal health reasons.
After a start in theater acting, Jennifer English took on her first video game voice role in 2017, making her debut in Divinity: Original Sin 2. English’s voice acting career was propelled forward by her breakout performance as Shadowheart in 2023’s Baldur’s Gate 3, which was shortly followed by her performance as Maelle in last year’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Jennifer English has won a total of five awards for her performance as Clair Obscur‘s Maelle, including a BAFTA, a Golden Joystick, a New York Game Award, and a 2025 Game Award.
Jennifer English Steps Away From Tides of Annihilation
Announced back in February 2025, Tides of Annihilation is an upcoming fantasy action-adventure game heavily inspired by Arthurian legend. A few months after its debut, Tides of Annihilation appeared during the Future Games Showcase, where show host Jennifer English officially announced that she’d be starring in the highly anticipated game. English’s voice could be heard in Tides of Annihilation‘s gameplay trailer, which premiered during the Xbox Partner Showcase in November 2025.

However, Eclipse Glow Games has just confirmed that Jennifer English will no longer be playing the role of Gwendolyn in Tides of Annihilation. Announced via a Twitter post that begins, “We have some sad news to share,” Jennifer English is stepping away from Tides of Annihilation due to “personal health reasons.” Eclipse Glow’s official announcement states that English informed the team in June that she’d no longer be able to continue in the role, and that while they were of course saddened by the news, they “respected Jennfier in prioritizing her well-being.”
Jennifer English is staying on as an advisor for Tides of Annihilation and has reportedly been assisting the developer with finding a suitable replacement for the role of Gwendolyn. This new voice actor hasn’t been officially confirmed just yet, but Eclipse Glow’s announcement states that it’s someone whose “recent work in video games left a strong impression on both Jennifer and our team.” This new actor is currently recording voice lines for Tides of Annihilation‘s upcoming hands-on Gamescom 2026 demo, meaning that fans will first hear this new interpretation of the character in late August.
