The future of Grand Theft Auto is quickly approaching, and fans should still be sure to mark July 21 on their calendar. With GTA 6 on the horizon, Rockstar Games’ next open-world crime game continues to dominate conversations, while GTA Online‘s Kortz Center Heist update has proven that its online mode has done anything but go stale. And the same can be said for the ever-engaged Grand Theft Auto community.
While Rockstar itself remains focused on hitting GTA 6‘s release date, the wider GTA community is preparing for the next era of online. One of the biggest parts of that future is FiveM, the popular multiplayer modification platform that has transformed GTA 5 into everything from roleplay servers to massive custom experiences. Now, FiveM is getting a major upgrade designed to improve performance, increase player counts, and lay the groundwork for what comes next.
GTA 5 Enhanced Gets FiveM on July 21
As announced by the FiveM team, FiveM for GTA 5 Enhanced will launch in Early Access on July 21, bringing a collection of improvements focused on networking, server performance, scripting, and developer tools. One of the biggest upgrades comes through improved networking technology. FiveM for GTA 5 Enhanced increases the possible synchronization rate from the previous 30 updates per second to up to 120 updates per second, reducing the delay between player actions and what others see in-game. The team has also improved entity culling, allowing highly populated servers to handle players and objects more efficiently while reducing visual delays.

The update also brings major improvements for GTA Online RP server owners and creators (or really anyone with a server). FiveM for GTA 5 Enhanced introduces the new Cfx Server system, which reduces memory usage by up to 50% in certain scenarios, alongside improved scripting support, expanded performance tracking, and upgraded developer tools. The platform is also working toward supporting servers beyond the current 2,048-player limit, with future public testing planned for larger player counts.
For players, some of the biggest quality-of-life changes include improved installation options, better cache management, and more reliable performance. FiveM will also now automatically remove outdated server files that previously could build up and consume storage space over time. Developers will also have access to improved monitoring tools, including expanded metrics and new performance profiling features to better maintain large-scale servers. Of course, it’ll be interesting to see what the PC version of GTA 6 looks like and what the next era of Online natively supports, but Rockstar is only focused on GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S right now.
Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
GTA 6 Online and a PC version are likely in the plans, but they are not the focus right now, meaning FiveM and GTA 5 Enhanced still have quite the shelf life ahead of them before players migrate to the presumed new version. Whether FiveM eventually plays a role in the future of GTA 6 remains to be seen, but the continued investment shows that the demand for custom GTA experiences is not slowing down anytime soon.
