A long-running franchise like Dragon Ball Z can be summarized by its story arcs, or eras. The original Dragon Ball was, in and of itself, an era for early fans. Dragon Ball Z was the era that became more synonymous with the franchise’s name, while Dragon Ball GT itself was an interesting era, to say the least. Dragon Ball Super, Dragon Ball Daima, and everything to come are all unique eras, but one of its longest-running eras is coming to an end on July 8.
As with all subfranchise endings, there’s no doubt this is bittersweet for Dragon Ball Z fans. Dragon Ball, in whatever form it takes, has been a mainstay in many anime and gaming fans’ lives—and arguably even beyond. Goku’s story, and those of all DBZ characters, can resonate with anyone truly.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2’s Final DLC Releases July 8, Support Era Over
July 8 will see the release of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2‘s Final DLC, dubbed Future Saga Chapter 4 (but also known as DLC Pack 21). Not only will this serve as the last major content drop for the game, but it’ll be bringing 10 years of support for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 to an end. In it, players face Fu’s ultimate plan, as he obtains the power of Ultra Supervillain, and sets the story up for the last fight of the era. Future Saga Chapter 4 will bring the long-developing storyline to an end with final balance updates, new story missions, character directions, and a new Awoken Skill.

No doubt this is bittersweet for fans who first played Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 so long ago, but where one era ends, another begins. Earlier this year, Bandai Namco Entertainment confirmed Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 would release in 2027, taking players to the Age 1000 (a literal new era) with new storylines, new characters, and more. Not much has been confirmed yet, but with the threat of DB Xenoverse 3‘s new Time Gods of Destruction, new gameplay mechanics, and new races to boot, it seems that this decade-long era is ending to kickstart yet another.
While fans await further developments in the gaming space, there are notable happenings for the Dragon Ball anime as well. Dragon Ball Super is getting a remake of the DBZ movie/first DB Super arc that saw Super Saiyan God Goku face Beerus in the Battle of Gods arc. It is said to have redrawn animation cuts, faster pacing, reduced filler, and a tighter story in line with Akira Toriyama’s DBZ vision. Plus, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol is also in the work for a televised anime release.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2‘s era may be coming to an end, but Saiyans never really stand down. They fight and push their limits, and given everything coming to DBZ across anime, gaming, and beyond just over the next year or so, it seems that the franchise is just as resilient as Goku himself.
