Destiny 2 is getting an update on June 30 that will add new items to the game. The situation at Bungie and surrounding Destiny 2 has been increasingly difficult since the announcement that the game would get its final update on June 9. Despite the community’s effort to keep player numbers high and engage with the game on social media as much as possible, the decision at Sony and Bungie didn’t change. In fact, it culminated with hundreds of Bungie developers and contractors losing their jobs.
The death of Destiny 2 is so sudden that the planned hotfix update for June 30, including bug fixes and possible quality-of-life features, has been delayed, likely due to a lack of staff. The layoffs at Bungie in June 2026 affected hundreds of developers, primarily those working on Destiny 2, with some on Marathon as well. Bungie Studio Head Justin Truman stepped down, and it seems that the layoffs total 292 cuts in studio, with around 400+ across SIE and contractor positions.

Destiny 2 is Adding a New Armor Set on June 30
Even in the wake of its death and with no Destiny 3 happening for the foreseeable future, the game is getting more content this coming Tuesday, June 30. Destiny 2‘s Iron Banner is coming back, and will keep on coming back thereafter every four weeks for a whole week, with Control and an additional mode available. As it usually happens, this Iron Banner brings a reward refresh, and players will be able to get 12 reprised weapons, two returning weapons, and 11 now-tiered weapons. More importantly, there is a new armor set for players to get, and it’s very good.

Destiny 2‘s Monument of Triumph armor sets have been a massive breath of fresh air in the game, and several have already become the go-to in multiple activities. Now, Iron Banner will introduce the Iron Battalion set, which will provide incredibly powerful bonuses, especially in PvE.
- 2-Piece Bonus: Primary Honing — Increases handling and reload speed for Primary ammo weapons. Primary ammo weapons gain increased damage against non-boss combatants based on your Weapons stat.
- 4-Piece Bonus: Supercyclical — Final blows while your Super is active, refund Super energy when it ends.
Destiny 2‘s endgame builds often run a Primary weapon, be it Legendary or Exotic, to make sure they don’t run out of ammo and/or to stun Champions reliably. This set’s 2-piece bonus makes Primary weapons deal more damage to non-boss enemies, which can be extremely strong in activities like Grandmaster and Ultimate Alerts, where each hit deals 10 damage or less. Possibly even stronger is the 4-piece bonus, which refunds Super energy based on kills with the Super. This could pair with already strong builds like the Warlock’s Geomag Stabilizers and Chaos Reach, or the Titan’s Hallowfire Heart and either Solar Super.

It’s unclear what the exact percentage will be with each set bonus, but Destiny 2‘s Iron Banner is about to be a must-play activity for PvE goers and PvP fans alike. Whether this will be a meta set remains to be seen, but on paper, it seems very powerful and is only obtainable from June 30 to July 7, before the next Iron Banner.
