June 30 Is Going To Be a Big Day for Battlefield 6

June 30 is poised to be a big day for Battlefield 6 as EA and its development studios share details on some of the major changes coming in the next big update. After launching last year, Battlefield 6 has seen plenty of ups and downs, but based on recent seasonal content and an eye to the future, the game appears to be headed in a much better direction.

Despite launching to massive player numbers, Battlefield 6 stumbled a bit in its first season. Technical issues, AI accusations, and general player frustrations caused sentiment and player numbers to plummet. Although Season 2 of Battlefield 6 was initially met with a delay, Battlefield Studios seemingly used that time to continue tweaking and improving many elements of the game, helping to push it in a much better direction. With Season 3 currently in full swing, many fans note that the game is in a much stronger state than it was, with numerous updates and added content helping to turn things around. As it stands, EA and Battlefield Studios aren’t anywhere near done with the improvements.

GameRant speaks to Battlefield Studios Seasonal and Competitive Creative Lead Ariel Giovannetti about Battlefield 6 Season 3’s Blastpoint update.

Battlefield 6 Details Major Features of June 30 Update

In a new blog post, Senior producer David Sirland and Principal Game Director Florian Le Bihan revealed new details as to what players can expect when Update 1.3.3.0 launches on June 30. Gunplay is going to be a major focus of this update, with the post laying out many of the big changes to gunplay depth, including the aiming process. While Battlefield 6 has made previous changes to weapons, this latest patch has made another wide-ranging pass to recoil, making sure it is more consistent and predictable. One example is with the SOR-556 MK2 Assault Rifle, which no longer has higher direction and intensity variation, making it slightly easier to master.

Battlefield Studios is also looking to reward proper shooting techniques by slightly increasing bullet deviation after the first shot, so players should use more controlled bursts or tap firing to stay accurate at distance. In addition, muzzle velocity for most weapons has been decreased, while bullet drag has also been tuned to push players to better anticipate enemy movement.

Time to Kill Changes

Time to Kill was also a priority in this patch, with the blog confirming that the studio’s benchmark for close-quarters combat is between 200 and 300 milliseconds for automatic weapons, similar to how it was in Battlefield 3. Without impacting the best possible TTK times, the team slowed down average numbers to better increase depth of gunplay and reward weapon mastery. Part of how that was done was through changing the body damage multipliers based on player feedback. For example, limb and lower torso damage has been reduced for all weapon classes except shotguns and sidearms.

Also on the topic of damage modifiers, the post went into more detail regarding the “Sweet Spot” for snipers. While each Sniper Rifle in Battlefield 6, minus the Mini Scout, has a specific “Sweet Spot” for increased/lethal damage at a specific range, the team examined the combat data to determine that the ranges were perhaps a bit too generous with too much overlap. As such, the team is adjusting the range values, providing a new set for each weapon.

  • Mini Scout: N/A (No “Sweet Spot”; by design, it’s meant for fast follow-up shots)

While the update on June 30 appears like it’s going to be a big one for the game, there’s plenty more for fans to look forward to in the months to come. Season 4 of Battlefield 6 has already teased some of the content fans can expect, including 2 new maps: Tsuru Reed and Wake Island. Naval combat appears to be taking center stage in Season 4, while highly requested features like proximity chat, server browsers, and more have been teased.
