It is hot outside. So I’m staying inside more than ever. And when I’m inside, I like to play games. I assume you do as well, as you are currently reading Kotaku and a blog about PlayStation Plus games. Speaking of which, this month has some big hits for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers, including Final Fantasy 16, Life Is Strange: Double Exposure, and the awesome PS2 game Gitaroo Man.
On June 10, PlayStation officially announced the next round of PS Plus Extra and Premium games that will be added to the subscription service’s game catalog. Take note that not all of these games will be available starting today. We’ve added the dates below to the list to help you plan your gaming schedule.
The big star of this month’s round of Extra/Premium games is Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 16. It is, as of now, the latest mainline standalone entry in the long-running franchise, and it’s pretty dang good. Meanwhile, Sonic fans can enjoy Sonic X Shadow Generations, which isn’t as good as FF16, but a solid way to replay the game with some new content. I’m also excited to see Farming Simulator 25 on here if only because I can now do my annual ritual of checking out a farming game for a few hours and then uninstalling it. Maybe next time. Oh, and let’s not forget Gitaroo Man, a weird but wonderful PS2-era rhythm game that hopefully plays well on PS5 and PS4 and doesn’t have weird timing issues.
Remember, to access, download, and play these PlayStation games, you’ll need to be an active PS Plus Extra or Premium tier subscriber. Essential tier subscribers don’t get access to the game catalog. And if your subscription runs out in the future, you’ll no longer be able to play these games until you resubscribe.
