Kingdom Hearts turns 25 years old in 2027, and Square Enix is already preparing to bring back a familiar piece of the franchise’s history. The original Kingdom Hearts introduced Sora, Riku, and Kairi alongside a massive cast of Disney and Final Fantasy characters, setting the stage for all the games that followed. With Kingdom Hearts‘ 25th anniversary approaching, there’s plenty of interest in what Square Enix has planned for the occasion.
Naturally, much of that interest surrounds Kingdom Hearts 4, which remains one of Square Enix’s most anticipated upcoming games. Right now, Square Enix is confident it will release Kingdom Hearts 4 in 2027 with no delays, as mentioned during the recent announcement of its Coco world. There’s no guarantee of any major announcement tied to both the anniversary and Kingdom Hearts 4 next year, but both should still see plenty coming from Square Enix.
Square Enix Celebrates Kingdom Hearts with a 25th Anniversary Rerelease
The first celebratory announcement is the re-release of Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts Traverse Town music box in late 2026 and into 2027, bringing back a collectible that originally launched in November 2025. Retailer Aitai Kuji is preparing a restock for the franchise’s 25th anniversary, which means those who order as soon as it is available should get theirs as soon as possible in 2027, right at the start of the anniversary. The music box plays an arrangement of the iconic “Traverse Town” theme, which will be instantly recognizable to anyone who played the original Kingdom Hearts.
The collectible was previously priced at 2,970 Yen (approximately $19 USD), although pricing for the upcoming restock may vary. The Kingdom Hearts music box features a transparent case that shows off its internal mechanism, with a small, simple design that makes it easy to display. It measures approximately 2.36 inches wide, 1.97 inches deep, and 1.38 inches tall. Of course, Traverse Town is an especially memorable world in Kingdom Hearts, serving as one of the first major locations that Sora visits after leaving Destiny Islands. It’s also where players encounter several familiar Final Fantasy characters for the first time, making it an important part of the original game.
Square Enix has released plenty of music boxes over the years, including music boxes for Final Fantasy 9, Final Fantasy 10, and Chrono Trigger, with the company regularly bringing back some of its most recognizable soundtracks in collectible form. These aren’t particularly elaborate products, but their relatively affordable prices make them appealing alternatives to the expensive statues and figures that often accompany major gaming franchises. The return of the Traverse Town music box is another opportunity for collectors who missed its original November 2025 release.

There’s still plenty of time for Square Enix to reveal its bigger plans for the Kingdom Hearts 25th anniversary, especially with Kingdom Hearts 4 continuing to loom over the franchise. The company could celebrate the milestone in several ways, whether through new merchandise, special events, and/or additional news on Kingdom Hearts 4, but for now, that remains to be seen.
