Kratos Actor Comments on God of War Remake Trilogy and Teases New Santa Monica Studio Announcement

Christopher Judge, the actor behind Kratos in the newer God of War games, has given fans new info on the upcoming remake trilogy and Santa Monica Studio’s next game. There’s been a lot of noise around the series lately, with the rumored Metroidvania spin-off shadow dropping during the latest PlayStation State of Play and plenty of other leaks and rumors picking up steam. Now God of War fans have a better idea of what to expect, thanks to an inside source spilling some unexpected details.

After Santa Monica Studio’s 2018 soft reboot and its sequel propelled God of War back into mainstream popularity, fans have been anxious to see what’s next. There’s talk of the next game branching further into other mythologies, and God of War Ragnarok‘s Valhalla DLC made a strong case for a remake of the original trilogy. It seems Santa Monica Studio has listened to fans, as it’s confirmed an OG trilogy remake is in the works, and it sounds like it’ll be much more than a fresh coat of paint.

Every God Of War Game, Ranked

Santa Monica Studio’s God of War has produced many great games. Naturally, some of Kratos’ bloody PlayStation adventures are better than others.

Kratos Actor Says God of War Remakes Will Have a “New Fighting System” and More

YouTuber and Twitch streamer Fuzhpuzy spoke with Judge at Fan Expo Vancouver, where the voice actor got surprisingly candid about the upcoming God of War projects. While Santa Monica studio revealed a God of War remake trilogy is in development during the State of Play, it didn’t offer any specifics beyond Kratos’ original voice actor, TC Carson, returning to the role. Judge confirmed this with Fuzhpuzy, but went on to say the remakes would have “new technology,” including a “new fighting system.” It also sounds like the actor said the game will “add new stuff,” which could suggest additional story content or gameplay elements not present in the original trilogy.

The note about the fighting raises a few questions about what exactly fans can expect. Many say that the newer God of War games have the best combat in the series, so Santa Monica Studio could be incorporating this approach into the remakes, or it could be doing something else entirely. Going off the initial reveal, it sounds like the remake trilogy is still early in development, so there may not be any specifics to offer for now and mechanics and content are liable to change between now and release. Still, Judge’s statement confirms that the project is a bigger lift than just remastering the originals.

The Kratos actor also touched on the studio’s other upcoming work. Unprompted, Judge said fans will hear more about what the series is doing “probably late summer.” At least one leaker has suggested that a new Santa Monica Studio game will come out in 2027, so that could be what Judge is referring to. Right now, it’s unclear if this title is part of the God of War universe or not, but Judge did refer to it as “what we’re doing,” so if he’s involved, it would make sense if it was another God of War game, be it a new mainline entry or another spin-off.

Of course, the upcoming announcement could also be more details on the remakes Judge and Fuzhpuzy were talking about previously, but that seems unlikely considering how early in the lifecycle it sounds like that project is. Many fans seem to think the next God of War game could branch into Egyptian mythology, but others say a return to Greece or sticking with the Norse setting is more likely. Whatever the case may be, it sounds like players won’t need to wait long to learn more. Regardless, the God of War revival is in full swing, so there’s a lot to look forward to.
