A third mainline game in the Layers of Fear series, Layers of Fear 3, has been announced by developer Bloober Team.
The sequel was announced in a video celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the original Layers of Fear. It contains a lot of tone-setting footage, set to a spooky rendition of “You Are My Sunshine” – there’s nothing particularly scary in the video, but it’s a little unsettling.
Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno promises in the video that the Layers of Fear series is “still alive, still evolving, and still finding new ways to haunt”. The video closes out with another live-action video, this time serving as a trailer for the third game. You can watch it below (but don’t expect a lot of specific details).
The game’s official website does not offer up many details either, although the William Blake poem “The Sick Rose”, the game’s logo, and the footage in the anniversary livestream definitely all point towards a game about dealing with the sickness of a loved one (possibly a child named Rose).
Also announced within the video were two Layers of Fear novels, adapting the original two games. The first one, from author Marta Bijan, is due to release in late 2026.
The most recent game in the series, 2023’s confusingly titled Layers of Fear, was a remake of sorts, combining content from the first two games with some new content added. This game received a 5/10 in GameSpot’s review, with reviewer Mark Delaney noting that “gameplay across the series largely comes down to walking, opening doors, and seeing what weird scene awaits on the other side.”
Bloober Team specialises in horror games, and has recently enjoyed critical success with the studio’s Silent Hill 2 remake and Cronos: The New Dawn.
