Games, TT Games, DC, and The LEGO Group are celebrating the anniversary of Batman’s debut and his upcoming newest venture in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight with the limited edition comic book The LEGO Batman Returns. This tie-in release will connect to the story of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, while referencing past films, television shows, and comic book releases from the franchise.

Free LEGO Batman Comic Book Coming on May 2
The LEGO Batman Returns “follows a day in the life of LEGO Batman as he returns to Gotham City after a hiatus and encounters a variety of familiar DC characters.” Audiences will be able to pick up the special comic book completely free of charge at participating comic shops on May 2 in celebration of Free Comic Book Day. Written by Beware the Batman‘s Ivan Cohen and featuring artwork by Batman: Under the Hood‘s Paul Lee, The LEGO Batman Returns blends the beloved storytelling and visuals of DC Comics with the signature humor of LEGO. The beginning panel of The LEGO Batman Returns even depicts the iconic image of the Caped Crusader swinging over Gotham City, which was the classic cover image of the original comic where Batman first appeared.

For fans who are unable to snag a physical copy, The LEGO Batman Returns will also be available for free digitally on May 2 via the DC UNIVERSE INFINITE app. It is unknown if any content included in the comic would be considered spoilers for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, but the standalone nature of the story should make it a worthwhile pickup for players wanting to familiarize themselves with the LEGO version of Batman ahead of the game’s launch. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight introduces an all-new adventure that will follow Bruce Wayne’s epic journey to become the hero of Gotham City and releases for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 22, with a launch for Nintendo Switch set for later in 2026.
In addition to the comic book tie-in, four new LEGO DC Batman sets are available, and each kit includes in-game redeemable digital content for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
