A talented LEGO builder has transformed the recently released Sonic the Hedgehog Tails’ Tornado-1 set into an X-wing starfighter from Star Wars. This impressive LEGO alternate build brings together two massive franchises in a creative way, without using any extra pieces.
The Sonic Tails’ Tornado-1 set launched in August, though it was leaked as early as February. However, the Sonic the Hedgehog theme has been around for just over three years, launching in August 2023 after first releasing as a subtheme of LEGO Dimensions in 2016. The enduring popularity of Sonic the Hedgehog makes the collaboration a no-brainer for LEGO.
Custom LEGO X-Wing Build With Sonic Tails’ Tornado 1 Set
Popular Reddit builder Minute_Food_2881 shared their impressive LEGO alternate build of the Tails’ Tornado-1 Sonic set, transforming the plane into the iconic X-wing from the Star Wars franchise. It’s extremely cool to see how creative they’ve been in bringing the build to life, including using the Egg Chaser head as the Astromech droid in the X-wing. They also put the Tails minifigure in the pilot seat of the colorful red and yellow X-wing, and place it on a stand to help it stay upright.
For anyone who wants to build this custom LEGO X-wing build for themselves, the instructions are available on the creator’s Rebrickable account for $3. On the page, Minute_Food_2881 (also known as CreationCaravan on Rebrickable) revealed that the build uses only pieces from the LEGO Sonic Tails’ Tornado-1 set, with no extras needed. They do use spare parts that are already in the box, using 270 pieces in total. According to CreationCaravan, the build is both “swooshable and sturdy.”
CreationCaravan/Minute_Food_2881 is one of the most popular alternate LEGO builders right now, producing unique creations regularly. It’s always cool to look at what they might build next, often using new releases for their alt builds. A lot of these creations – like the new X-wing – focus on LEGO Star Wars alternate builds, many of which tend to include the Millennium Falcon. In this, this latest X-wing build is almost a breath of fresh air.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, the future could be bleak for the future of LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets. A rumor began circulating last month that LEGO Sonic sets would be winding down going forward, which would be a massive shame for fans. This should be treated as a rumor until officially confirmed, and fans will just have to wait and see what happens from here.
