Lego Link And Epona Looks Cool, And Probably Too Expensive

Yesterday, amidst all the fun and chaos of the Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, Nintendo revealed yet another sick new Lego set featuring Link and Epona. Unfortunately, you can’t get it until next year, and it will almost certainly be eye-poppingly expensive.

We saw this new set for a whole second and a half during the Direct, and the only further details we learned were in a follow-up press release from Nintendo, which said the set would have 1,750 pieces and would be available in spring 2027. That means, like the recently announced set of Super Mario minifigures, that it won’t be available at Christmastime (or even in time for the game’s release). That said, it seems like it will coincide nicely with the film release in April of next year.

I like the look of this set: it looks like Epona’s joints might be posable, which is cool, and I love how big and fluffy her tail is and how expressive it all is. This is very much a model intended for adults, though, as this doesn’t really seem like the kind of Link and Epona toy that would lend itself to kids playing with it.

This is cool and all, but I just can’t stop thinking about how much this is probably going to cost. We don’t have an official price yet, but the 1003-piece Ocarina of Time set featuring Ganondorf, Zelda, and Link is $130, and the much more grandiose 2500-piece Deku Tree 2-in-1 is $300. I get it, these are cool, detailed models intended for adult collectors with money to burn; it just kills the excitement a little bit for me every time I see a new set like this announced.
