LEGO Pokemon TCG Contest Has 5 Dynamic Sets as Finalists

LEGO Pokemon TCG Contest Has 5 Dynamic Sets as Finalists

LEGO has plans to make a set based on the Pokemon TCG, and it’s giving fans the opportunity to decide which one will get released. After a partnership with MEGA Bloks that lasted several years, the Pokemon license ended up with LEGO at the start of 2026. The company has wasted no time putting its mark on the franchise, releasing multiple sets based on popular Pokemon, as well as iconic elements like the Kanto Gym Badges and a Pokemon Center.

While the company has been quiet about its future plans, several LEGO Pokemon sets have leaked online. Over the last three decades, the Pokemon franchise has grown massively, and there’s no shortage of potential sets LEGO could offer. Right now, the focus seems to be largely on the first generation of games, but it’s clear that LEGO will expand beyond elements introduced in Pokemon Red and Green.

LEGO’s Pokemon TCG Finalists

Back in March, LEGO began a contest tasking builders to come up with a set based on the Pokemon TCG. With the Pokedex currently sitting at 1,025 entries, the company put in place specific guidelines regarding which Pokemon were allowed. LEGO has already released sets based on major Pokemon, including Pikachu, Charizard, and Eevee. All of those were prohibited from the contest, forcing participants to create a build from a list of 30 Pokemon, none of which have had LEGO sets just yet. The finalists have now been chosen, and fans can vote on one design based on either Gyarados, Mew, Rowlet, Joltik, or Arceus.

Voting is now live on LEGO’s official website, and the voting phase will run through June 11. Unfortunately, it seems like there will be a long wait between the voting and the announcement, as the winner won’t be revealed until February 4. The LEGO Ideas program brings fan creations to life, though the final product can sometimes vary from the original pitch. That means the design sold in stores might not be exactly what fans are voting for, but it should be pretty close.

It will be interesting to see which of these designs gets the most votes. Gyarados and Mew have the benefit of popularity; both have been around since the earliest days of the franchise. Of course, Arceus is considered the Original One, and the Pokemon’s lore makes it a pretty big deal among fans. However, Rowlet has been a starter in both Sun and Moon and Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and starter Pokemon tend to be more familiar to casual fans. Given how beloved all of these Pokemon are, it’s hard to imagine Joltik could be a winner, but the reality is that all of these designs are very impressive. LEGO chose these five as the finalists with good reason, and there’s a chance any of them could be the winner, regardless of their popularity.

The Pokemon TCG has been a huge part of the franchise’s popularity since the very beginning, and a set based on the card game could be a big success for LEGO. It’s one of the best ideas the company has showcased since getting the Pokemon license, and it could bode well for future sets. Pokemon is a franchise with a deep history, and there are lots of creative ways to honor that beyond just offering sets based on the icons of the series. It remains to be seen which of these designs will be offered for sale, but Pokemon fans invested in a winner will have to cast their ballots and hope for the best.
