Neowiz has been caught in a wave of scrutiny following this posting, leaving many fans upset about the future sequel to Lies of P as it continues development.

Lies of P made quite a splash in the soulslike genre when it released in 2023, and it even continued to make waves in 2025 with the release of its Overture DLC. By mixing the best parts of the soulslike genre with its own unique twist on the Pinocchio story, Lies of P has proven it can give FromSoftware a run for its money and then some. Following its breakout success, development studio Neowiz has stated that it is working on a sequel to Lies of P, presumably featuring Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz as the main character. There has been no word on where the upcoming sequel stands in its development cycle, but recent job openings suggest it is still in its early stages.

One of the most recent job openings for a potential sequel to Lies of P comes from Neowiz’s co-development studio, Round8, which is seeking an AI artist to leverage generative AI to “maximize the efficiency of the art production process.” Posted on Neowiz’s own job board, the role requires candidates to have 3 or more years of experience with Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, LoRA, and Comfy UI, as well as experience with Unreal Engine 5 and 3D workspaces like Blender and ZBrush. Additionally, the position pays roughly between $36,000 to $58,000 USD per year. Given the current negative sentiment toward AI in the gaming industry, Lies of P fans are not happy about this job posting.

Fans on Reddit have already started to decry the job opening, stating that Lies of P is a wonderful game with beautiful, handcrafted art that would be done a disservice if “AI slop” was tossed into the upcoming sequel or whatever Neowiz is working on. Some fans concede that AI can improve workflows across multiple departments, but the use of AI assets in the art-creation process only diminishes the human element of handcrafted art. How the Lies of P developers intend to integrate the AI art created with this new role into the workflow of the final artistry and the final product remains to be seen. However, Lies of P is far from the first studio to get caught up in the AI asset controversy.

Many major studios have recently incorporated AI into their workflows, whether in programming or art. Neowiz and Round8 aren’t the first to use AI in their workflows, and they certainly won’t be the last. Most notably, Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was found to have used AI-generated artwork at one point, accidentally leaving AI assets that were supposed to be replaced with handcrafted art in the final game. The highly celebrated Larian Studios has also been in hot water over AI use fairly recently, and then backtracked when criticized for it. So it seems like even the most celebrated developers in the industry can be enticed to use the controversial tech and its promises to accelerate workflows, in the name of shorter development times as the industry continues to create bigger games.

Fans may be disappointed to find that whatever follow-up to Lies of P that Neowiz is working on will include AI-generated art, but many gamers are hopeful that the tide turns on the AI craze soon enough.
