Maligned Ubisoft Games That Are Better Than Everybody Remembers

Ubisoft is not a company that has shied away from its fair share of controversies. Whether that means a game is just received badly as a whole, or whether that means a game is glitchy at launch, Ubisoft has remained a steady company, pumping out developed and published games from under its umbrella for decades.

10 Flawless Ubisoft Games That Are Perfect From Start To Finish

Ubisoft has been around for decades, and these are the ten essentials that are flawless experiences from beginning to end.

That does mean some bad games have leaked out occasionally, but not all of them are as bad as initially received. I mean, is Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint really one of the worst games ever made? No, and the same goes for the rest of these Ubisoft games. There are reasons to like them now.

The category for round 1 is …

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint

A Buggy Sequel

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is one of the best Tom Clancy games and also one of the best within the subseries of the Ghost Recon brand. That’s why the sequel, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, was so disappointing, as the launch version was beyond buggy. There was a lack of polish from glitches that made guns disappear, to character faces that looked like they suffered from acid attacks. It also lacked content in the long run without a good road map, assuring players that good things were coming.

While it hasn’t received the polish that Cyberpunk 2077 received after its poor launch, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint has been in a decent place for years by this point. It is also a blast with a couple of friends, as Breakpoint supports 4-player co-op, and it is definitely worth a try if your group has been looking for something new.

Cold Fear

Don’t Rock The Boat

Cold Fear came out at the wrong time, as it was released just months after Resident Evil 4, which helped redefine horror games and the Resident Evil series as a whole. Comparatively, Cold Fear is not that inspiring, but it is a good horror game that has a fun, cheesy B-horror movie vibe.

Players assume the role of Tom Hansen, a U.S. Coast Guard member who happens upon a Russian boat in the ocean. On board, he finds diseased members of the crew and can go to town, demolishing them one by one with various guns and even a flamethrower. As far as boat-based horror games go, Cold Fear is a hidden gem and definitely above average, and it can fill the void for anybody craving something closer to the original Resident Evil trilogy.

Lost: Via Domus

A Side Story Within The Show

Lost: Via Domus U.S. is set within the first few weeks of the show, which kicks off with the plane crashing into the island. It’s hard to put into words just how big Lost was in the early 2000s, but as a TV show, it is one of the best of the era. That’s why it wasn’t surprising when a game was announced. Even better, the main cast are in it, from Jack to Sawyer; however, players assume the role of a photographer not seen in the actual show, named Elliott Maslow.

Players can explore the island, running into familiar caves and areas, including the hatch. It’s a puzzle-heavy game, and trading is also a big part of the gameplay, exchanging materials for key items from the cast. For fans of the show, it didn’t really provide much in the way of answers to any of the show’s lingering questions, which is a criticism of Lost in general. Still, in some regards, it was a cool example of a game allowing fans to interact with familiar sets.

Toy Soldiers: War Chest

A Tower Defense With Toys

Toy Soldiers: War Chest is a tower-defense/strategy game at its core, which uses a set of original toys to wage war against opponents. While the core gameplay loop is nothing new for the genre, there were cool aspects of the game that made it more enticing.

Rayman, Child of Light, Red Steel 2

8 Ubisoft Games With The Best Art Styles

These Ubisoft titles easily draw people’s attention thanks to their unique and vibrant art styles.

DLC packs added characters from G.I. Joe, Assassin’s Creed, and He-Man Masters of the Universe. Playing a big tower defense game with toys from these golden franchises instantly made it a more quirky experience, at least for a few rounds. It’s still not the best game in the world, but Toy Soldiers: War Chest is far from a complete disaster.

Star Wars: Lethal Alliance

One Of The Few Star Wars Femme Fatales

Star Wars: Lethal Alliance

Released

December 5, 2006

Star Wars: Lethal Alliance was released for the DS and PSP, so it is already more obscure than a lot of Star Wars games. What makes it cool and worthwhile is the fact that it is one of the very few games that has a female lead, Rianna, who is a Twi’lek. The game takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, just like many Star Wars games of the modern era, including The Force Unleashed to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

While Star Wars: Lethal Alliance is not as good as those examples, it is a hidden gem that is well-worth a playthrough by any die-hard fans. As a handheld release, its limitations are plain to see, but it still has decent action and stealth gameplay across a short range of levels, even though they are a bit uninspired. The PSP version is definitely the one to check out if at all possible.

Haze

One Of Many “Halo Killers”

Haze is still surprisingly an Ubisoft game that is exclusive to the PS3. It was designed to be one of many “Halo Killers” of the 2000s, and it certainly did not dethrone Halo in any capacity, which is why it sort of got raked through the coals. The expectations were high, unmet at the time, but in retrospect, it is a decent game in many ways since the developer, Free Radical Design, knows its way around shooters, having previously designed the celebrated Timesplitters franchise.

As good a developer as Free Radical Design was, Haze went through some trouble. The gimmick of the game revolved around a substance called Nectar, which players could take to get a boost in senses, speed, and power. The story was uninteresting, as were the level designs, but of the PS3 generation, there were far worse shooters than this. Haze was just a bit bland, but the single-player was enjoyable enough.
