Man Accused of Stealing From Kids Baseball League to Spend Money on Casinos and PlayStation

A man has been accused of stealing more than $60,000 from a youth baseball league, using the money for casino gambling and PlayStation purchases. The PlayStation and casino-related charges were made while the man was president of the league.

The cost of getting into gaming for many fans has been on a steady incline throughout recent years, with gaming becoming a more expensive hobby. Base prices for many popular consoles have seen consistent increases, with platforms like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 becoming more expensive for fans to pick up a current-gen console. Sony pushed out yet another price increase for the PlayStation 5 in early 2026, officially raising the price for disc drive models to $599.99 for the digital edition and $649.99 for PS5 models with the disc drive. Now, one man has been accused of stealing from a baseball league to fund both his gaming and gambling.

Sony Rule Makes PlayStation All-Digital Future Even More Frustrating

As PlayStation moves toward a digital-only future, fans are discovering another issue that could make the transition even more complicated.

Las Vegas resident Steve Rodriguez Prado was arrested on July 2 for stealing more than $60,000 from the Little League of Central Nevada. Rodriguez Prado allegedly committed the crime while acting as president of the little league, with police discovering the fraudulent charges after members of the league’s board expressed their concerns about missing funds. The Las Vegas police discovered bank statements for everything from alcohol and trips to the casino to even some charges for PlayStation-related goods connected to the account. Rodriguez Prado was officially charged with two counts of forgery and one count of failure to register as a convicted person with law enforcement, with Steve Rodriguez Prado later being released on a bond of more than $17,000.

This little league theft serves as an unfortunate incident that is far from the first of its kind. The trading card game industry has been plagued with similar stories of theft, especially with the rise in popularity of games like the Pokemon TCG and Magic: The Gathering. Even some high-profile stores have been targeted by thieves looking to pilfer valuable cards, including a card shop owned by former NFL star Tom Brady being robbed in late 2025.

Prices throughout the gaming industry have similarly been impacted by the ongoing RAM shortage, with components becoming harder to find. The RAM shortage has largely been attributed to the booming AI industry, with data centers needing massive quantities of RAM in order to power servers for apps like ChatGPT and Gemini. The rise in RAM prices has similarly carried over to the gaming industry, causing spikes in hardware prices that have even seen Valve’s Steam Machine launch at a staggering $1,049 for the 512 GB model of the console.

The little league president’s misuse of league funds in casinos adds to rising scrutiny of gambling, particularly in online spaces. Gambling websites like Stake have often faced criticism after being featured on popular streaming platforms like Twitch and YouTube, even being banned on several platforms. One disgruntled user of gambling app DraftKings even filed a lawsuit against the company, alleging that the company exploited signs of gambling addiction. The former little league president’s actions serve as an unfortunate reminder of the lengths some people will go to for personal gain.
