Marvel Rivals Tournament Host Comments on Kingsman Situation

Marvel Rivals tournament organizer BasimZB admitted that he was in the wrong for removing content creator Kingsman265 from a showmatch tournament. The incident involving Kingsman265 happened during the Deadpool Creator Cup, and featured several Marvel Rivals players from across the globe.

The tournament took place on Sunday, January 18, two days after Deadpool’s arrival in Marvel Rivals. The online tournament consisted of eight teams featuring six content creators each, with a $40,000 prize pool split among all participants. Kingsman265 was a member of Team Cecee, and asked his team if they could switch from Black Widow to another hero so that they could have the best composition possible. Kingsman’s request was shot down by his teammates, and he was removed from the Marvel Rivals tournament by BasimZB following some practice matches.

However, the Marvel Rivals drama involving Kingsman265 did not end with the tournament, as the fallout caused BasimZB to weigh in with his thoughts. During a January 21 Twitch stream, BasimZB said that he was “wrong” about removing Kingsman265 from the Deadpool Creator Classic and that his decision was made based off of bad information that he got from Team Cecee while the tournament was in progress. BasimZB said that, in retrospect, he would not have removed Kingsman265 just because he was insistent on trying to help his team have the best chance at winning the tournament. Although BasimZB said that Kingsman265 was persistent about asking his team to use another hero rather than stay with Black Widow, that alone would not have been enough cause to remove him from Team Cecee and the Marvel Rivals tournament.

BasimZB said that there was no excuse for his hasty decision. In a follow-up stream on January 22, he shared some conversations with Kingsman265 that took place following the Deadpool Creator Cup, and said that they have since patched things up despite the circumstances. Following the Deadpool Creator Cup, support came pouring in for Kingsman265 from Twitch viewers and Marvel Rivals fans alike. As of this writing, Kingsman265 had over 110,000 Twitch followers and over 10,000 Twitch subscribers. The surge in popularity resulted in his acceptance into Twitch’s Partner program.

The Kingsman265 Situation Has a Happy Ending

Kingsman265 said that he initially planned to use the prize money from the Deadpool Creators Cup to pay his college tuition and later received a $3,000 donation from a Twitch viewer. The $3,000 donation was notable, as it was the same amount that he would have earned had his team won the Deadpool Creator Cup. The first place prize was $18,000 from the $40,000 prize pool, split evenly among each team member. Kingsman265 then revealed that Marvel Rivals developer NetEase Games surprised him with some Units that he could use to purchase skins for Magik, his preferred hero.

After receiving several donations and subscriptions from Twitch viewers, Kingsman265 asked people to stop sending him money, as he made more than what he would’ve won from the tournament. Suffice it to say, Kingsman265 turned a bad situation into one that worked out in his favor. Although Marvel Rivals has a busy 2026 slate ahead, it remains to be seen what Kingsman265’s future plans are as far as competitive tournaments go.
