Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls Releases Brand-New Performance Update

Following a brief maintenance period, Arc System Works releases a new update for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls which attempts to address the major performance issues currently impacting the game. It’s been a big rollercoaster ride for Arc System Works and its newest tag fighter, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Despite a huge amount of anticipation from players, the launch has been rougher than expected.

While PS5 players have largely been enjoying a problem-free experience, the opposite has been true for those on PC. While plenty of warning signs appeared during the beta, many of the performance-based issues have apparently come over to the full version of the game as well. In fact, the amount of issues has led many to review bomb Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls on Steam as players are growing frustrated with lag, frame rate issues, and other longstanding issues like the PSN requirement and the fact that the game can’t be played on Linux-based platforms. The latest update is taking aim at a number of highly reported issues.

Following on the heels of Marvel Tokon‘s previous Day 1 launch patch, this latest update is fairly PC-centric. While it isn’t an overly large patch, it seems to be a very important one for PC players to download. Specifically, ArcSys has made multiple fixes regarding the CPU usage issues, especially when the game starts up, as well as one related to audio processing during matches. The patch also fixes sudden performance and frame rate drops, which should make the experience smoother for PC players. One of the identified performance drops was linked to the game constantly checking for available audio inputs, behavior which was called “unnecessary” in the patch notes.

In addition, this update also attempts to make some improvements for PC players. Once updated on PC, players will be prompted to “warm-up” the game’s shaders, which will result in a smoother experience if accepted. Arc System Works has also improved the detection system that automatically selects a graphics profile, which will now select a level that better fits the player’s current system specs. In terms of bug fixes, which likely impact both PC and PS5 players, this update addresses an Online Lobby issue that resulted in buttons becoming unresponsive during minigame events. A bug with Battle Settings, which could sometimes be reverted on restart, has also been addressed here as well.

Early reaction to the patch has seemingly been very positive, with many PC players reporting that it has done a lot to resolve the current issues they’ve been experiencing. While it may not be a cure-all, the update seems to be a very important step forward for the game on PC. It may be enough for PS5 players to finally enable Cross Play again on Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, as many opted to turn it off to avoid getting into matches with poor performance from PC players.

Unfortunately for Sony, which has been at the forefront of plenty of discontent from fans due to a variety of recent decisions like the end of PlayStation’s physical media by 2028, this certainly isn’t the first PC port to experience trouble. Many first-party PlayStation games have struggled on PC, some in terms of sales, while others due to many issues impacting the game. Until Dawn, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and even The Last of Us Part I are just a few of the games that launched in a rougher than expected state on PC.

PC Fixes

Reduced CPU Usage

Multiple fixes have been implemented to reduce overall CPU usage, including:

• An issue where the CPU ran high throughout the start up process.
• An issue where additional load on the system was being created due to periodic audio processing during matches.

Sudden Performance Drops

We identified an issue where the game was regularly checking for available audio inputs. These unnecessary checks could cause sudden frame drops and performance drops. This has now been addressed.

Frame Rate Drops

Fixed an issue where the frame rate would drop when certain resolutions were selected.

Bug Fixes

Battle Settings

Fixed an issue where restarting the game with certain customization items or colors enabled would cause the settings to revert to default. Online Lobby

Fixed an issue where changing how attack buttons were displayed to action icons resulted in some buttons becoming unresponsive during the open lobby mini games.

With the game being updated to the latest version, the PC version will prompt you to warm-up the shaders. Do so now for a smoother experience.
