Marvel Tokon Settings Change is a Game Changer

As Arc System Works continues to work on performance issues plaguing the PC version of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, PS5 players have begun turning off Cross Play to avoid getting mixed in with the problems. In the months leading up to launch, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls gained plenty of momentum thanks in part to character reveals of Deadpool, Magneto, and others. Unfortunately, it seems the player experience on PC is dragging things down a bit.

Although the recent beta test revealed a number of concerning performance issues, especially on PC, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls released a Day 1 update, addressing a variety of issues. Many concerns, like optimizing control inputs, reducing input lag, and improvements to reduce CPU load left fans hopeful that the beta issues were ultimately fixed. Unfortunately, it seems Arc System Works is going to need more time to fully resolve the issues, though in the meantime, PS5 players can tweak one setting to safeguard their online experience.

Marvel Tokon begins its Year 1 DLC plans with a fighter whose abilities could make him one of the game’s most dangerous characters.

Marvel Tokon Continues to Experience PC Issues

With plenty of excitement leading up to launch, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has seemingly stumbled a bit out of the gate. The PC version has fallen to “Mixed” reviews on Steam, with many noting performance issues plaguing the experience, while the PS5 version is regarded as being the much more stable version. Considering Cross Play is a main feature to allow players from both platforms to battle one another, it also means that PS5 players could fall into poorly optimized matches when paired up with a PC player. To avoid potential problems, PS5 players have begun turning off Cross Play completely, which ensures that they won’t be matched up with a PC player and potentially seeing some of those existing performance problems during matches.

Unfortunately, much of the conversation surrounding the PC version of the game mirrors the experience for many during the recent open beta. Despite being packed with content to check out, many PC players were unhappy with the Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls open beta due to many performance-related issues like lag, stuttering, frame-rate drops, and more. Arc System Work acknowledged the issues and even confirmed a number of fixes for launch. While some things may have been improved, it apparently wasn’t enough to solve everything. A new Tweet confirms more performance fixes are on the way, but it hasn’t helped in terms of keeping players happy in the meantime.

Of course, much of the launch heat has fallen onto the lap of Sony, which continues to be at the center of numerous controversies. Many reviews on Steam bemoan Sony ruining everything, linking things back to the decision to end physical media on PlayStation consoles by 2028. The decision has continued to cause an uproar in the community, even after Sony announced that it isn’t changing course. Other reviews called Marvel Tokon “horribly optimized” on PC, something which isn’t entirely new for many Sony ports on Steam. Another pain point is that Marvel Tokon can’t run on Linux, which means it is blocked from working on the Steam Machine or Steam Deck as well.

In addition, Marvel Tokon was also involved in controversy when it was discovered that the PSN requirement for PC players, similar to Helldivers 2 initially, would mean that well over 100 countries wouldn’t have access to the game at all. While Sony eventually reversed course with Helldivers 2, that doesn’t appear to be happening at all for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls.
