Meccha Chameleon is a viral hit on the internet, with the hide and seek multiplayer game having amassed millions of players in just a couple of weeks on Steam. The low-priced release has gotten so big, however, that it’s now transcending the virtual sphere and entering the real world. Fans have started leaving colored 3D-printed figures in random public places similar to the ones players use in the game.
Meccha Chameleon gives players paint to color their character to help them hide in the surrounding environment. In the weeks since it launched, fans have come up with some really creative ways to conceal themselves, getting meticulous enough with the painted details that they’ve managed to evade discovery from even the most observant seekers. Now, fans are taking the skills they’ve honed in the game out into the real world, and they’re just as impressive.
Solid-colored figures are one thing, but some of the figures are multi-colored and have elements of real-world designs on them, such as this one by user strangerhands_ on TikTok where they colored the chameleon to match multiple patterns on a coffee shop’s bathroom wall.
Another person in Hong Kong has some of the best looking real-life Meccha Chameleon videos I’ve seen thus far. szetingwong on Instagram is sticking these things on bags of chips at a grocery store, blending in with the Lays logo and the FIFA art on the bag, and you can’t really even tell until they zoom in.
It’s now my goal to find one of these little guys somewhere in New York City. So get to it, New Yorkers.
