A medieval-themed open-world game called Bellwright, which has been available on Steam since 2024, joined the PlayStation 5 lineup on June 9, 2026. In terms of gameplay, Bellwright is often compared to games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Medieval Dynasty, both of which are popular on PlayStation 5. However, Bellwright also features survival mechanics that many players believe are reminiscent of hardcore titles like Valheim.

Bellwright has been in early access on Steam, where it has accumulated more than 20,000 user reviews, 80% of which are positive. Despite being relatively new to the PlayStation Store, it has already received over 500 reviews, resulting in an average user score of 3.74 at the time of writing. Bellwright is widely regarded as one of the best games for players looking to experience a realistic medieval life, and developer Donkey Crew describes it as a game where players build a world from the ground up.

Donkey Crew Is Working on Co-Op Features

The Steam version of Bellwright features both single-player and online co-op modes. However, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players may have noticed that the console store pages currently list only single-player support. Developer Donkey Crew explained that the team encountered unexpected challenges while implementing co-op features on consoles, leading to the feature’s delay. The good news is that the developers are actively working on bringing co-op play to the console versions of Bellwright as soon as possible. The team also plans to add full cross-platform support, allowing players across different platforms to play together.

Currently, there is no release date for co-op and crossplay support in Bellwright. However, developer Donkey Crew has stated, “Playing alongside your friends, whatever platform they’re on, and self-hosted dedicated servers are both in active development, and both are coming later this year. Likely before the next major update.” PS5 players interested in Bellwright can currently take advantage of a 20% discount for PlayStation Plus members, lowering the price to $23.99 through June 23. Once the promotion ends, the medieval city-building game will return to its standard price of $29.99.
