Spoilers for World of Warcraft: Midnight below.
The final chapter of the World of Warcraft: Midnight story is now available, and in it, most of the Elves of Azeroth come together to restore the Sunwell into a new form: the Dawnwell. This is the last major story development in World of Warcraft: Midnight until Patch 12.0.7.
World of Warcraft: Midnight released on March 2, beginning the second installment of the Worldsoul Saga multi-expansion storyline. The leveling campaign saw fans return to Eversong Woods and Zul’Aman, and journey to Harandar and the Voidstorm, in their efforts to stop Xal’atath from claiming the Sunwell. In subsequent weeks, the endgame campaign took a turn for the worse; after the Voidstorm raid, Alleria and Turalyon went missing, the Vanguard of Light was decimated, and the Sunwell was corrupted by the dark Naaru, L’ura, into the Darkwell.

World of Warcraft: Midnight follows a trend that Star Wars has stumbled over for many years, and fans are starting to get sick of it.
World of Warcraft: Midnight Campaign Finale Now Available
Though L’ura was defeated in the March on Quel’Danas raid in WoW: Midnight, and the Darkwell closed, the Sunwell was irrevocably damaged in the process. As of April 7, however, the final chapter of the endgame campaign, “The War of Light and Shadow,” is now available. During the culminating cinematic of this chapter, the Elven allies who had gathered to stop the Devouring Host each offer something to the dormant Darkwell, purifying and transforming it into the Dawnwell, a seemingly weaker yet more harmonious evolution of the Sunwell:
- Ranger-General Vereesa Windrunner of the High Elves: the crown of Anasterian Sunstrider
- First Arcanist Thalyssra of the Nightborne: a fruit of the Arcan’dor tree
- General Shandris Feathermoon of the Night Elves: a vial of Moonwell water
- Magister Umbric of the Void Elves: a shard of Void energy
- Blood Matriarch Liadrin of the Blood Elves: a mote of Light energy
This event serves as a defining moment for most of the Elven groups. The High Elves and Void Elves are now welcome back to Silvermoon City in World of Warcraft full-time, with both factions now having embassies. The Void Elves are now staying in the Umbral Atrium, while the High Elves can be found in the Sunsilver Accord, named after the Silversun Compact signed between the Silver Covenant and Sunreavers during the campaign chapter. Additionally, the Darkwell and its energies are completely gone, restoring Silvermoon’s skybox to a clear state.
In addition to the “The War of Light and Shadow” achievement, players will also earn the Silversun Compact Regalia Transmog, the Peridot Dragonhawk mount, and two golden Farstrider statue decor items after completing this chapter.
Meanwhile, Xal’atath is gone. It is revealed that she and thousands of her minions had used the Darkwell to enter Azeroth itself, making this victory a hollow one. Given the name of the saga, the antagonist is likely seeking a way to the Worldsoul itself, so fans can almost certainly expect to see Xal’atath again later in World of Warcraft: Midnight, or in The Last Titan.

Alleria and Turalyon are also nowhere to be found; they fell through the Darkwell, so if they are still alive, Xal’atath may have them.
With this chapter now available, the story of Midnight is concluded for the time being. Patch 12.0.5 will have some new lore pertaining to the Twilight’s Blade, who Xal’atath abandoned on the surface, but the next actual story chapter will be in 12.0.7, with a full campaign expected in World of Warcraft: Midnight Patch 12.1.
