Modern Warfare 4 Devs Respond to Kill Block Gameplay Criticism

Following the reveal of the new Kill Block multiplayer mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Infinity Ward responded to fan frustrations over the gameplay and its visual issues. While the reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was spoiled slightly by leakers announcing its October 2026 launch, the game made its official debut in May, revealing an explosive conflict on the Korean Peninsula.

Even though it continues the narrative thread from the events of Modern Warfare 3 and Captain John Price, the latest entry centers on an invasion taking place on the Korean Peninsula. Infinity Ward is promising that authenticity and immersion are a major focus for the Modern Warfare 4 campaign, with a conflict that aims to take the game back into a much larger scale operation rather than the smaller special forces-style activities presented in the recent games. There are plenty of new things to check out as well, such as the recently revealed Kill Block multiplayer mode, though it appears that the gameplay reveal left some fans disappointed.

Following the reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Infinity Ward addresses how the studio plans to handle future cosmetics and collaborations.

Infinity Ward Responds to Kill Block Criticism

During Fanatics Fest, which took place in New York City starting on July 16, Infinity Ward revealed a new multiplayer mode called Kill Block for Modern Warfare 4. Taking place within a live-fire military training facility, the core element here is that the layout changes each time the mode is loaded with over 500 possible map configurations at launch. While initially supporting 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight modes, Infinity Ward isn’t ruling out adding more modes over time.

However, as exciting as the reveal was, the live gameplay left some fans disappointed due to visibility issues from the muzzle flash effects after firing weapons. Numerous content creators like Marksman and IceManIsaac left comments about the poor visibility and being unable to see where the weapons were actually shooting. However, Infinity Ward not only heard the criticisms and feedback, but actively responded to it as well.

In a new Tweet, Infinity Ward thanked fans for their feedback regarding the Kill Block gameplay, confirming that the pre-release Alpha builds are still a work in progress and the muzzle flash effects seen in the gameplay was a bug that will be fixed ahead of the planned Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta. The feedback also led the team to roll out another fix addressing the suppressor using the wrong muzzle flash VFX and the muzzle smoke opacity being reduced across all weapons. The post ended by asking for more feedback and agreeing that a clear sight picture is critical to the gameplay experience.

In fact, Infinity Ward followed that up by posting a short video showcasing the changes made to the DMR. The old footage showcased the original criticisms fans had with the experience, while the updated footage revealed a cleaner picture while aiming.

Alongside Kill Block, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is bringing back DMZ, taking place in a border zone called Hajin. This fully rebuilt version of DMZ intends to feel more like a living world than its predecessor, with a more dynamic zone that seemingly changes each time players experience it. From dynamic weather effects to new opportunities and challenges that can arise, Infinity Ward has also ensured that there are multiple paths of progression through operations, story moments, as well as just freely exploring the zone.
