Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has an unexpected advantage on Xbox Series X/S that PlayStation 5 players can’t access, even if they complete the identical objectives. Although Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 offers largely the same experience across both consoles, Microsoft’s recently introduced achievement system gives Xbox completionists an additional reward for their efforts that PlayStation currently lacks.
Modern Warfare 4 launched on October 23 to a generally positive reception, with its campaign earning considerable praise despite a more mixed response to multiplayer. The release also arrived shortly before Microsoft introduced Mythic Achievements, a highly requested new feature that recognizes players who complete every original achievement in a game. Similar to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophies, Mythic Achievements provide an additional distinction for reaching 100% completion, although achievements added through subsequent DLC and updates aren’t required. The system even recognizes eligible games completed years ago, including titles originally released on Xbox 360.
Modern Warfare 4 Can Unlock an Xbox Mythic Achievement, but Has No PS5 Platinum
As highlighted by prominent Xbox achievement hunter Stallion83, completing all 18 achievements associated with Modern Warfare 4 unlocks the Mythic reward for the shared Call of Duty application. That is particularly notable because MW4’s achievements are technically categorized as an add-on within Call of Duty HQ, while Xbox normally says Mythic status is based only on a game’s original achievement list. Player reports nevertheless indicate that completing MW4’s full suite of campaign achievements currently satisfies the launcher’s Mythic requirement. Neither Microsoft nor Activision has provided a detailed explanation for this specific unlock condition.
Unfortunately, PlayStation 5 players don’t receive the same recognition. Modern Warfare 4 also features 18 trophies on PS5, consisting of eight Gold and ten Silver trophies, but disappointingly enough, no Platinum. This is because the game’s trophies are categorized as an additional list within the existing Call of Duty application rather than a separate game. However, this isn’t anything new, as the lack of a Platinum trophy has become a recurring frustration for Call of Duty fans on PS5, especially since some previous releases offered separate PS4 versions with their own Platinum trophies. But since Modern Warfare 4 is the first modern Call of Duty built exclusively for current-generation hardware, that option is no longer available for trophy hunters.
Those hunting as many Xbox Mythic achievements as possible may be happy to find Modern Warfare 4 relatively manageable compared with some of the franchise’s notoriously difficult completion challenges. Earning all 18 achievements should take approximately 15 hours or more according to True Achievements and PowerPyx. The most demanding requirement involves completing the MW4 campaign on Realism, which removes the HUD and makes combat considerably more punishing. Players must also complete several specific combat challenges and collect various items throughout the campaign, but they’re nothing too crazy. By comparison, Black Ops 3‘s infamous Personal Decorator achievement alone could take 80 hours, while Black Ops 4‘s Platinum can take more than 100 hours due to its multiplayer, Zombies, and Blackout requirements.
With Modern Warfare 4‘s first season arriving November 6, players will soon have more content to pursue across multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone. However, the completion-reward difference between Xbox and PS5 remains, with Activision yet to announce whether Modern Warfare 4 will eventually receive a standalone PS5 trophy list and Platinum. While it may not affect the game itself, that gap gives dedicated completionists one small reason to prefer MW4’s Xbox version.
