My Hero Academia Voice Actor Dubs Over Viral Cheating Apology

My Hero Academia Voice Actor Dubs Over Viral Cheating Apology

In My Hero Academia, protagonist Deku is a typical shonen hero: naive, brave, determined, and really, really corny. The voice actor behind Deku, Justin Briner, is a certified shitposter who’s been known to channel Deku’s whiny pleading for a laugh (with great power comes great responsibility, and even greater joke potential). Briner’s latest such foray involves a now-deleted Tweet and a streamer scandal.

Sykkuno, a popular livestreamer known for his gaming content and “wholesome” personality, has been having a rough go of it lately as accusations that he’d been unfaithful to his girlfriend reached a fever pitch, ultimately resulting in the YouTuber and his girlfriend releasing an apologetic statement on April 16. While one never knows how such apologies are going to be received by the public, Sykkuno almost certainly couldn’t have predicted that his statement would be as ridiculed as it has been, with Justin Briner even getting in on the action by reading Sykkuno’s comments in a voice that sounds a whole lot like Deku.

The impression is archived by Dexerto, but Briner’s original post has since been deleted—most likely due to backlash given the sensitivity of the subject. Briner’s original post was captioned “did my best impression of the streamer” and, in a follow-up reply, Briner clarifies that the voice was not explicitly Deku, but a different twerpish character based on “the strange streamer.” Briner also says about the Sykkuno situation: “ofc I don’t condone this, and we beat his ass in the sajam slam,” referring to a streamer fighting game event.

Other than deleting the original post, Briner seems to be taking the situation in stride, cracking jokes about his “extreme” behavior being attributed to the cancellation of the Northernlion Super Cruise and being jailed for “high crimes against the internet.”

ok I’m sorry, I’d never have been driven to these extremes if the northernlion super cruise weren’t cancelled

quick update from me – I’ve been sent to the prison where they send youtubers for high crimes against the internet, specifically the Weirdo Wing. I have much yet to learn from them.

Now I’m scheduled to be executed live at the next Mr Beast Games half time show. See you there!

For the record, the impression is really funny—although I’m not convinced Deku’s the cheating type. But what do I know, I haven’t watched the anime.
