Netflix is having major technical difficulties at the time of this writing. Netflix is the biggest streaming service in the world, with a robust library of licensed titles and original content for subscribers to enjoy. In recent years, Netflix has started more aggressively featuring live events and specials, though this hasn’t always worked out in the company’s favor.
For example, the huge Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight on Netflix was rife with technical difficulties, and these problems have plagued other Netflix live events as well. Whenever too many people all log in to watch the same thing on Netflix, it seems to cause some headaches. The latest event throwing a wrench in Netflix’s plans isn’t a live sporting event, but rather a special presentation on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6.
Is Netflix Down Right Now?
The Grand Theft Auto 6 Extended Look premiered on Netflix at 3pm EST on Thursday, August 27. With millions of gamers anxiously waiting to see GTA 6 in action, many guessed that the streamer would have some technical difficulties. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what’s happened, with users online reporting issues accessing Netflix or watching the Extended Look. The 27-minute presentation is meant to give fans their first official look at Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay since the game was announced four years ago, and so not being able to watch it is likely frustrating for many, especially those that signed up for Netflix specifically to see the Extended Look. It’s unclear exactly how widespread the problems are, though, as some users have been able to tune in.
The GTA 6 Extended Look features about 27 minutes of content, with gameplay running on a PS5. Later tonight, the GTA 6 Extended Look will be added to the Rockstar Games YouTube channel. The Extended Look is expected to be timed-exclusive to Netflix for about six hours, so those that are having trouble watching now may want to wait for the YouTube version to come out.
While there has been a great deal of anticipation for the GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix, it lost some of its aura thanks to the recent leaks that have been hitting the internet. GTA 6 leaks have been plastered all over the place, showing off unofficial gameplay of the highly-anticipated open world game before the Extended Look could air on Netflix. These leaks are undoubtedly disappointing for Rockstar, but based on the demand for the Extended Look, they don’t appear to have hurt anticipation for the game too much.
We will update this article as soon as Netflix is 100% working again.
