Neva: Prologue Confirms Release Date

Neva is getting brand-new content for fans to play on February 19. Nomada Studio’s spiritual successor to GRIS is one of the most beloved indie darlings of 2024, receiving plenty of praise from fans and critics alike, and now there will be even more to its legacy before long. A Neva prologue is coming as a standalone DLC, and it will be here before the month is up.

There were several big announcements at Sony’s February 2026 State of Play, from the long-rumored God of War spin-off shadow dropping to Castlevania getting its first new game in over a decade. New titles from big companies and long-running franchises weren’t the only surprises of the night, though. Indie games also had a strong showing at the event, including a Kena: Bridge of Spirits sequel and a new game from the makers of Shovel Knight. While those titles may be further away, Neva fans are getting something to look forward to in less than a week.

Neva Prologue Releases on February 19, 2026

Neva hasn’t received any major updates since late 2024, so the announcement that it will get a prologue on February 19 came as a pleasant surprise. While the Princess Mononoke-inspired puzzle platformer may lack the same name recognition as some other games at the State of Play, this DLC is big news for anyone familiar with the title. On top of being a hit among fans, Neva won the Games for Impact award at the 2024 Game Awards and was nominated for Best Art Direction and Best Independent Game. For anyone unfamiliar, the game follows a woman named Alba and her magical wolf companion, Neva, as they fight for a rapidly decaying natural world. Fans and critics have praised it for its visuals, music, and touching narrative, so getting even more Neva to play is a welcome, if unexpected, development.

The upcoming prologue will tell the story of how Alba and Neva found each other and formed the emotional bond that drives the narrative of the main game. Nomada Studio says the DLC will offer three new locations, each with unique mechanics and gameplay, new enemies, and more collectibles for completionists to hunt. That could be a relatively sizable expansion for the base game, considering Neva takes just four hours to complete the main story and can take just six for a completionist run. Getting some backstory to Alba and Neva’s relationship is also an exciting addition for a game praised for its story.

While the announcement came during the PlayStation State of Play, fans won’t need a PS5 to play the prologue. In addition to the PS5, Neva is available on Switch, Xbox Series X, and PC. The title card at the end of Neva‘s DLC reveal subtly confirms it’s coming to all of these platforms, too, presenting all of their logos beneath the release date. Nomada Studio did not say how much the DLC will cost, but the base game is just $20, so the prologue likely won’t be very expensive, either.

PlayStation users still have a bit more to look forward to with the game, though. During the State of Play, Sony also revealed that Neva is coming to PS Plus Extra this February, alongside a slew of other games. That makes it the perfect time for anyone with an Extra or Premium PS Plus subscription to dive into the game if they haven’t already. Not even two full months have passed in 2026 so far, but it’s already shaping up to be a big year for games, both in new releases and with old favorites getting a welcome boost.
