The Gameplay Group and PM Studios release a new message to the Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game community, providing an update to the Nintendo Switch 2 version as well as an unfortunate last-minute delay for the Xbox Series X platform. Alongside the launch of a full-length movie, the Avatar franchise continues to grow with a brand-new video game called Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game.
Developed by Gameplay Group International, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a hand-drawn 2D fighter, bringing iconic characters from both animated series together. The game has seen plenty of anticipation from fans thanks to various character reveals like Zaheer, who breaks the game’s rules by essentially being able to call in his support characters as assists. Reviews for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game have been positive, with outlets praising the visual style, training options, and responsive gameplay. Unfortunately, one group of fans will have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the game.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Delays Xbox Series X Release
Less than a day before the anticipated launch date for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game on July 23, the official social media account posted a new message to players with an unfortunate update. The lengthy message confirmed that the Xbox Series X version of the game is seeing a delay, now planned to launch on September 3. Existing pre-orders will remain in place as the message confirms that the studio wants to ensure the best possible experience on every platform, though the exact reason on why the delay was necessary wasn’t provided, only that it forced their hand after an “unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature” occurred.
Fit the 9 games into the grid.
In addition, the message also addressed the Nintendo Switch version, which confirmed that the game will only be seeing a standard release and will be missing some features that the other platforms will have, namely crossplay and language localization beyond English. The studio did reaffirm that it is committed to bringing the Deluxe Version and those missing features to the platform, though a specific timeline wasn’t provided.
Unfortunately, the delay comes at a difficult time as the upcoming launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November has caused a title wave of new games attempting to release ahead of Rockstar’s latest. As such, both September and October are stuffed with new games, putting Avatar Legends’ Xbox launch into a rougher position than its original July 23 date. In terms of just fighting games, both the Xbox and Nintendo versions will be launching after Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, as well as new DLC content for established franchises like Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

It’s unknown if this delay will have an impact on the release schedule for the post-launch roster of characters for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game. While nothing has been confirmed as of the publication of this post, fans saw the full roster in Las Vegas during EVO 2026. Bolin and Lin Beifong are joining from The Legend of Korra animated series, while Ty Lee and (Uncle) Iroh are being added from the Avatar: The Last Airbender series. The final fifth spot will come down to a fan vote between 5 different characters: Amon, Asami Sato, King Bumi, Kuvira, and Tenzin.
