New Cozy Simulation Game on Steam Is Already a Big Hit with 96% Positive Reviews

The newly released cozy simulation game ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs has sold over 100,000 copies on Steam within just 24 hours of its release, and its reviews are incredibly positive. ReStory has gone through multiple playtests on Steam, and developer Mandragora has continually made changes to the game based on player feedback, which definitely played a role in its success.

At its heart, ReStory is a cozy job simulation game with anime vibes, and the entire story takes place in Tokyo, Japan. The gameplay revolves around running an electronics repair shop, attending to customers with all sorts of requests and fixing gadgets like retro video game consoles and vintage mobile phones.

New Steam Game Has Serious Kingdom Hearts Vibes

With Kingdom Hearts 4’s launch window under wraps, fans could be seeking something to play in the meantime, and this Steam game has a similar vibe.

ReStory Features at a Glance

  • 2000s-inspired gadgets and game consoles to repair
  • Detailed cleaning and restoration processes
  • Different options to customize the store
  • Various real-life-inspired repair tools
  • Branching story with choice-affected NPC interactions
  • 15+ hours of main campaign content
  • Anime-style character designs

Shortly after releasing on August 6, ReStory achieved the Overwhelmingly Positive review badge on Steam, with 96% of players recommending it at the time of writing. The game has also been popular with critics, with its score on the review aggregator site OpenCritic showing an impressive 89 out of 100. If those numbers aren’t enough to demonstrate ReStory‘s massive success, SteamDB data suggests the game peaked at over 19,000 concurrent players, which is huge for a single-player indie game on Steam.

Repair Original Atari Game Consoles in a Nostalgic Atmosphere

Most products featured in ReStory are renamed and slightly altered to avoid copyright issues. For instance, the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld is called PMP in the game, and it’s released by Nony instead of Sony. However, developer Mandragora has managed to secure a license for some iconic 1980s consoles, like Atari models. The nostalgia in ReStory doesn’t stop there, as the game features a functioning retro PC where players can browse an eBay-inspired second-hand market to purchase electronics and flip them after a quick repair. The PC is also the primary way to receive side quests, adding to the game’s overall replay value.

Customization Makes ReStory a Unique Experience for Each Player

The small repair shop or kiosk that serves as the players’ headquarters can be redesigned and decorated with the money they earn from repair jobs. With the game’s full release on Steam, players can also paint the walls of their shop and add ornaments to personalize it however they want. Addressing the new cosmetic features, the developer said, “We received a lot of demand to be able to paint the walls and change the shelves to match your vibes,” a request that has now been fulfilled in the game.

Given everything the game has achieved in such a short time, it’s safe to say that ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs is poised to become one of the most popular cozy indie games of 2026. Those looking to grab the game should note that there is currently a launch discount available on Steam, bringing the price down to $17.99 from the regular $19.99. However, the offer is limited-time and will end on August 20.
