Dead as Disco, a new indie rhythm-based beat ’em up game with a cyberpunk aesthetic, is blowing up on Steam right now. Officially released back on May 5, Dead as Disco has quickly climbed Steam’s top seller chart to reach rank eight in just a few days. It’s also currently sitting at an “Overwhelmingly Positive” user rating, with nearly 2,000 reviews, proving to be one of the best releases on the platform in 2026 so far.
Aside from Dead as Disco, several other Steam games have been blowing up recently, such as the multiplayer strategy RPG Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era and the co-op FPS Western Far Far West. Now, Dead as Disco is the latest title to rocket to the top of Steam’s best sellers, which is even more impressive when considering it has to compete with major releases like Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, Windrose, and the upcoming Forza Horizon 6. Steam users looking to break from the standard AAA releases in May 2026 can check out Dead as Disco for themselves and see if it earns the flowers it’s been given.

Cyberpunk Rhythm-Based Beat ‘Em Up Dead as Disco Has Reached an Impressive Sales Milestone
Developer Brain Jar Games has confirmed on Dead as Disco’s Steam page that the game has sold over 100,000 copies in just 48 hours. As the debut game from the indie developer, this is quite an impressive feat that has landed the game among Steam’s current best-selling games. Although Dead as Disco is currently only in Early Access, the game’s impressive user reviews suggest that the game is still packed with worthwhile content, and fans can expect its first update to roll out in the near future.

Dead as Disco follows the journey of Charlie Disco, former drummer for the titular band Dead as Disco. For one night only, Charlie has the chance to get revenge on his ex-bandmates by mastering the Beat Kune Do fighting style that combines rhythm-based gameplay and furious beat ’em up combat. The game features a non-linear, hand-crafted story for players to fight through as they work their way toward taking down each former band member that has now become an Idol in their solo careers, bumping Dead as Disco‘s soundtrack as they go.
Like a mishmash of games like Sifu, Hi-Fi Rush, and Cyberpunk 2077, Dead as Disco blends action martial arts gameplay with an original soundtrack that rewards players for fighting to the beat in a neon-filled cyberpunk setting. In addition to story missions featuring this rhythm-based combat, Dead as Disco also includes character customization options and the ability to decorate their base with memorabilia from the band’s past to help them uncover the game’s lost secrets.

With these custom songs, players can fight through an endless mode via Infinite Disco to keep the battle going even after the main story ends. Dead as Disco is also on sale right now for 20% off, giving interested players an even greater reason to check it out.
