New DC Live-Service Game Officially Revealed

A brand-new live-service fighting game called DCKO has been revealed, and it is a free-to-play mobile game featuring DC Universe characters like Batman and Superman. While it is not the first DC game on mobile, DCKO features a live PvP experience that is said to be “a first for DC mobile fighting games.”

DCKO is being developed by Drop Fake, a team of 30 veteran developers with a solid track record of creating fighting games for mobile devices. Most notably, the team consists of developers who previously worked on Marvel Contest of Champions, a game that is already being compared to DCKO.

New Live-Service DC Comics Game Inadvertently Revealed

Audiences get an unexpected confirmation of a new live-service DC Comics video game, after the project was inadvertently revealed.

DCKO Is a 2v2 Fighting Game with PvP and PvE

Unveiled in a short teaser trailer on July 20, DCKO is described as a new mobile fighting game featuring a massive roster of iconic DC characters in 2v2 tag-team battles across a variety of game modes, including immersive PvE missions and real-time PvP multiplayer matches that have never been implemented in previous DC mobile fighting games. Developer Drop Fake plans to release DCKO in 2027, though an exact release date has not been announced.

DCKO Pre-Registration Is Open Right Now

Developer Drop Fake is asking DC game fans to pre-register for DCKO through the game’s official website. Several milestone rewards are tied to registrations, offering in-game goodies and currencies to players who help reach the sign-up goals. For now, pre-registration for DCKO is only available through the game’s official website and requires a valid email address. Developer Drop Fake has also expressed plans to offer hands-on opportunities before the official launch for those who pre-register.

While it has not been officially confirmed, the wording in the official announcements suggests that the game could feature gacha pulls, similar to how hero acquisition works in Marvel Contest of Champions. For example, the DCKO website states, “Pull from a roster of iconic DC Legends, forge your perfect duo, and throw down against live rivals or the whole DC universe.” The upcoming mobile game’s terms of service also confirm the existence of microtransactions, including currency like coins, points, and tokens.

Right now, fans’ reactions to DCKO have not been particularly positive. A quick look at the top comments on the game’s YouTube trailer shows that many players were expecting a more exciting reveal, with several comparing DCKO to games like Injustice and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and criticizing it for lacking originality. It remains to be seen whether this negative sentiment will affect the game’s 2027 release or if it will manage to find a dedicated, loyal player base similar to Marvel Contest of Champions.
