New Diablo 4 Release Adds Remastered Diablo 1 Content and Bosses

At BlizzCon 2026, Diablo 4‘s upcoming season, known as Season of Hell’s Legacy, was revealed, including new details on how it celebrates the franchise’s 30-year anniversary. It was an absolutely massive weekend for fans of Blizzard and its various franchises like Diablo. Alongside a new game, Diablo 4 also confirmed a ton of new content on the horizon, including the next season.

With the Diablo franchise hitting its 30th anniversary in 2026, Blizzard had plenty to share with fans at BlizzCon, including a surprising announcement of Diablo 5 set for launch in 2029. Despite Diablo 4 no longer getting any new expansions, Blizzard isn’t ready to cut the cord on the game just yet, with new seasonal storylines as well as smaller bits of content like the arrival of Diablo 2‘s Amazon class in 2027. It also appears that Blizzard is positioning Season 15 to be one of the biggest the game has seen, acting more as a franchise celebration.

2027 is Going to Be Huge for Diablo 5

Despite the long wait for Diablo 5, Blizzard reveals big plans for the next entry of the fan favorite franchise starting next year in 2027.

How Diablo 4 Waking Nightmares Activity Celebrates 30 Years

During Blizzard’s What’s Next panel for Diablo 4, developers dove a bit more into the upcoming Season of Hell’s Legacy. As Blizzard revealed just a day before, Diablo 4‘s Season of Hell’s Legacy is a celebration of the franchise’s 30th anniversary and brings back the likes of Deckard Cain and the 3 Prime Evils of Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto. The seasonal quest will take players through what Blizzard calls a “living memory” of the past Diablo games, refreshed and recreated using Diablo 4‘s engine. This also includes iconic weapons and armor from previous games as well, all brought back for players to hunt down.

The season also includes a new activity called Waking Nightmares, which are essentially recreations of key moments from past games in the franchise. Blizzard confirmed there are three different types of Waking Nightmares dungeons to participate in, including one that will pit players against the Diablo franchise’s Prime Evils. Seasons lead Owen Leach also revealed that the team also recreated “almost all of Diablo 1” in the Diablo 4 engine, taking players from the start at Tristram Cathedral, through the Catacombs, into the Caves, and ending in Hell to confront Diablo himself.

In addition to these Waking Nightmare activities, Season of Hell’s Legacy looks to be full of nostalgia for franchise fans, including iconic unique items coming back like Leoric’s Crown, the Stone of Jordan, and Messerschmidt’s Reaver. Dark Wanderers will also be roaming Sanctuary for players to fight, serving as a sort of nod to the Diablo 2 storyline. The battle pass and cosmetic shop feature all sorts of references to past games, and the trailer for the new season even seems to hint at the fan favorite Diablo 3 map of Whimsyshire making a return.

BlizzCon also confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 owners are now able to get in on the action with the confirmation of Diablo 4: Age of Hatred Collection. Launching on September 15, Age of Hatred includes the base version of DIablo 4 alongside both Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred expansions. The Switch 2 version will also feature support for HDR and touchscreen as well. Unfortunately, the physical version of the game will have a code inside the box and players will also need to ensure they have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription, while also connecting to a Battle.net account.
