The brand-new Bully-liked game Agefield High: Rock the School has just debuted on Steam, and initial opinions have been overwhelmingly negative. Though Agefield High might look like a sort of spiritual successor to Rockstar’s Bully in terms of premise and general gameplay systems, Steam reviews warn that this indie game certainly isn’t the unofficial sequel fans waited two decades for.
Released all the way back in October 2006, Bully is an open-world action-adventure game that sees players assuming the role of Jimmy Hopkins, a young student of the fictional Bullworth Academy who tries to rise through the social ranks of the boarding school. Bully received a very warm reception from critics at launch, and the game has only continued to grow a passionate fan-base over the years due to its unique premise that’s rarely been replicated successfully since. Unfortunately, Agefield High doesn’t seem like it’ll be breaking that pattern.

Announced in July 2025, Agefield High: Rock the School is an open-world action-adventure game set in the early 2000s. Its official Steam page describes it as being aimed at those who want an experience akin to “an edgy teen movie from the early 2000s that isn’t afraid of humor that some people may consider outdated.” Agefield High‘s first trailer was met with a great deal of feedback, so much so that developer Refugium Games made a Steam Community post sharing a new trailer filled with improvements based on the early criticism.

After another few trailers and over 175,000 wishlists, Agefield High: Rock the School finally released on Steam on August 12, 2026, and it was immediately met with an onslaught of negative reviews. At the time of writing, Agefield High has a rating of ‘Mostly Negative’ on Steam after 622 user reviews. The 280 English language reviews all generally point to the same key areas of criticism, those being Agefield High‘s suite of technical issues, its repetitive quest design, key issues with combat and enemy detection, stiff facial animations, awkward voice acting, and the game’s lofty $30 price tag.

A day after launch, Refugium Games made a Steam Community post detailing a new update that came to Agefield High following its day-one reviews. Roleplaying as the in-game Principal Carpenter, the Agefield High devs admit that the “first day of school nerves got the best of all of us” and that the team is “doing [its] best to make the rest of this semester as smooth and fun for everyone as quickly as possible.” More specifically, this update has reportedly made the music minigames easier and has fixed “lots of smaller issues” mentioned in Agefield High‘s early reviews. The developers’ post also states that they “appreciate all kinds of feedback, whether positive or negative.”
Refugium Games has another two games currently listed on Steam, those being 2023’s Greyhill Incident and 2024’s Vacant’s Mine. While Greyhill Incident has a current Steam user review score of ‘Mixed’, Vacant’s Mine has a ‘Positive’ rating. That said, just 17 people have reviewed Vacant’s Mine compared to Greyhill Incident‘s 702.
