The Xbox Store via consoles has leaked a brand-new detail regarding the upcoming release of GTA 6 Online. However, it’s worth noting that it should be taken with a grain of salt since neither developer Rockstar Games nor publisher Take-Two Interactive has officially revealed GTA 6 Online, preferring to market GTA 6 as a single-player game.
And yet, GTA 6‘s Online mode is essentially Rockstar and Take-Two’s worst-kept secret. Fans know it’s going to happen, if for no other reason than the massive success of GTA 5‘s Online release, but Rockstar hasn’t acknowledged it yet. Given that its marketing for GTA 6 thus far has been sparse to say the least, that’s also no surprise, but now the Xbox Store has seemingly revealed that it will be packaged into GTA 6‘s main Xbox game hub/files.
Xbox Store Leaks GTA 6 Online Files
As aforementioned, nothing has been previously confirmed about GTA 6 Online, including whether or not it’s free-to-play, a standalone release, and/or attached to GTA 6‘s single-player mode in some way. Now, the Xbox Store has leaked that it’s the latter (as first reported by Rockstar Intel). Xbox users have noticed that its install files are separated into interesting categories on Xbox, namely “Story,” “Ultimate Edition Upgrade,” “Vintage Pack,” and “Extra” files. The implication is simple: the core GTA 6 game that can already be pre-ordered has multiple files that can be installed or are treated as add-on files. In other words, it seems that GTA 6 will function similarly to the Call of Duty games, for example, where players can download the campaign, zombies, or multiplayer.

In this case, it’s like that GTA 6‘s campaign is treated as one file, GTA 6‘s special editions are treated as add-ons, and GTA 6 Online will be its own file either in the Extra category or in a new, unrevealed category. While not outright stated, this is also encouraging for GTA 6 Online being a free-to-play release and not a paid, premium one. Rockstar is already charging a solid premium for GTA 6‘s single-player mode, and it’s expected to make a killing off microtransactions in GTA 6 Online.
Hopefully, GTA 6 marketing picks up for the single-player mode in the coming weeks, but fans shouldn’t expect Rockstar to show its hand for the Online mode soon. It is believed to release sometime after the core game mode in November, meaning that there is technically a second GTA 6 release likely planned for 2027. It makes sense, given that the sheer size of this launch is going to be massive. Might as well plan out a second, while giving Rockstar devs time to properly support both the initial launch and Online launch.
Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
GTA 6 boss Strauss Zelnick recently said the company expects $1 billion in revenue in the current fiscal year, and with the majority of its IP making way for GTA 6‘s November release date, it’s likely this number reflects the confidence in GTA 6‘s sales It may not make up all of that, then again it might, but there’s no denying that everyone expects GTA 6 to be massive. Its Online mode, whenever it is revealed and released, is expected to be nothing short of that either.
