Grand Theft Auto 6‘s exclusive previews for select creators and outlets have confirmed that the game will feature a Pokemon-esque system. Before the Extended Look trailer, Rockstar Games invited a select few to its studio in Scotland for a special showcase, and these previews have revealed many more details about Grand Theft Auto 6.
The Extended Look turned out to be exactly what fans have wanted since the release of the first two GTA 6 trailers. It offered over 20 minutes of action mixed with interesting cutscenes and confirmed several features fans were hoping to see. That said, some of the more interesting details came from people who got to watch Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, play GTA 6 for a couple of hours.

Spanish content creator El Rubius, better known as elrubiusOMG, was among those invited to Rockstar North for an exclusive GTA 6 preview, where he learned that the game will feature such extensive wildlife that players will have a Pokedex-like log to track the animals they encounter. Rubius said, “There were more dogs, animals everywhere. There are a lot of animals in this game… But one thing [Rob Nelson] told me is that there would be some kind of bestiary or Pokedex where you could register all the animals you come across.”

The feature was also confirmed by IGN’s exclusive report. It appears that Jason and Lucia will have a list of animals they can “study,” and every time they do so, their compendium expands. Fans of Rockstar Games’ other renowned AAA open-world game, Red Dead Redemption 2, should be at ease with this feature, as that game also featured a similar animal compendium with hundreds of creatures.
One thing that is yet to be confirmed is whether a specific bonding system will exist for animals and pets. In GTA 6‘s Extended Look trailer, Jason is seen petting an NPC’s dog, with an icon popping up on the screen afterward. While this could be an early sign of such a mechanic, fans will need to wait longer for official confirmation. For now, what’s been confirmed is that players will see a wide range of creatures, as well as a zoo where they can study animals they may not be able to find in the wild.
It was already confirmed that GTA 6 NPCs will be significantly diverse, but these new details now show that the same level of meticulousness has also been put into the environment design. If the wildlife in GTA 6 ends up being an expanded version of what players have seen in Red Dead Redemption 2, it is going to be massive. Players might also expect to see natural interactions between animals, such as breeding and reacting to predators, as well as perhaps a hunting-centric side activity, as seen in the previous installment, GTA 5.
