The release date of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction has been pushed back by a few months due to the development team needing more time to get it ready to go to market. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction had previously been slated for release on April 28, but fans will now need to wait until sometime in summer for their first chance to play it.
Mattel first announced the upcoming He-Man game in August 2025, promising a retro, side-scrolling beat ’em up adventure developed by Bitmap Bureau and published by Limited Run Games. Drawing inspiration from the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon from the 1980s, the toy giant revealed the game’s plot, which will see Skeletor posing a new threat to Eternia through an ancient ritual, which will require some of the realm’s mightiest heroes to stop it.

Many fans don’t think Nicholas Galitzine is bulky enough to portray He-Man in Masters of the Universe.
The New He-Man Game Has Been Delayed Until Summer 2026
In late February, the publisher and developer jointly revealed the release date for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction would be on April 28, coinciding with Masters of the Universe Day, which was first celebrated in 1987 via a decree from then-Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley. But a new official announcement reveals that the game will be missing that special day, stating that it will instead be released during the summer of 2026, with no exact date pinned down at this time. Reasons for the release date delay were not overly specific, simply stating that Bitmap Bureau needed more time to finish and refine the game while also noting that the team is “nearing the end of development.”
Once the game is finally released, it should hold a lot of nostalgia for longtime fans of the franchise. Early reveals announced that players would be able to take control of some of the strongest characters in the He-Man universe, including He-Man, Teela, and Man-at-Arms. Additional reveals since the original announcement have announced She-Ra as an unlockable character for play, the inclusion of Battle Cat as a mount, appearances by The Sorceress and Orko, and 12 different stages filled with iconic locations from the cartoon. Additionally, Skeletor will be aided by minions from his stable of villains, including Evil-Lyn, Trap-Jaw, and Beast Man.
Although the delay is moving the game off an oddly specific cartoon-based holiday contained to one California city, pushing back the release could potentially prove a successful move for the He-Man franchise. A live-action movie reboot of Masters of the Universe is scheduled to hit theaters on June 5, starring Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Jared Leto as Skeletor. That’s still a full 15 days before the official start of summer, but placing the releases of the movie and the game in closer proximity on the calendar may prove helpful, as the fandom of each could potentially bolster the other.

Limited Run Games is asking fans of the franchise to be patient while it puts the finishing touches on its upcoming arcade-style brawler, stating that the finished product will “deliver an experience worthy of fans.” He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction will be available digitally for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
