New Horror Game on PlayStation Store Has Bootleg Nathan Drake

New Horror Game on PlayStation Store Has Bootleg Nathan Drake

While there are plenty of strange games that pop up on the PlayStation Store, it’s a bit more surprising when one features an iconic character from an exclusive franchise. That’s exactly what is happening with an upcoming PlayStation Store release called 28 Floors: Outbreak, which randomly features Uncharted’s Nathan Drake in its key art.

This isn’t the first time that a game ripping off a PlayStation IP has made the rounds online. A blatant Horizon ripoff from Tencent called Light of Motiram saw Sony filing a copyright lawsuit against the Chinese company, which resulted in Tencent settling and delisting the game. Over on the Xbox marketplace, an even more obvious God of War clone that stole Kratos’ Norse character model came under fire, with the name War Gods Zeus of Child doing little to hide the developer’s intent. However, what makes 28 Floors: Outbreak particularly shocking is that Sony somehow let this slip by its quality control department, with the company listing it on its very own store.

PlayStation Plus Still Hasn’t Delivered on a Promise It Made in 2025, But That’s a Good Thing

Sony talked a big game about a big shift for PlayStation Plus in 2026, but a third of the way through the year, that change is nowhere in sight.

28 Floors: Outbreak is Nothing Like Uncharted, Which Makes Things Even Stranger

Perhaps PlayStation CERT missed this instance of theft because of 28 Floors: Outbreak’s genre of choice. Outside of Nathan Drake’s Uncharted 4 character model being a prominent part of the key art, there’s nothing resembling treasure hunting and setpiece-filled gunfights in this game. Instead, it’s a bit closer to the Last of Us conceptually due to its focus on infected foes, but even that’s not a perfect fit due to the first-person perspective and seemingly limited combat. Instead of fighting infected for a majority of the game, players will seemingly be tasked with rescuing NPC survivors.

28 Floors: Outbreak includes the following features:

  • Resource management, with breakable tools, limited medicine, and batteries that drain.
  • Decision-making, with players needing to decide who to save and how much to risk.
  • Each of the titular 28 floors presents a different environmental threat to shake up gameplay, which seemingly range from zombie-like enemies that can be stunned with melee weapons to toxic contamination and collapsed floors.

While it’s true that players only have a description and some screenshots to go off of — many are naturally wary of vaporware after games like Abandoned have shown up on the PlayStation Store — what is being shown for this game certainly seems promising enough. 28 Floors seems to have its own identity and a clear gimmick it can make its own, which only makes it stranger that its developer felt the need to poach Nathan Drake’s character model. The game being made by Witenovastudio is nothing like Uncharted, and the other character models don’t seem to come from that series, so it’s unclear what exactly happened here. There’s also a chance that it’s just the profile of the character that has big Nathan Drake vibes, as his face is shown head on in the artwork seen below and looks noticeably different.

Sony’s Response to Nathan Drake’s Unofficial Return Will Be Interesting to Watch

Once Sony sees the discussion around this PS Store listing, though, it’s sure to act, but how extreme its decision is will be interesting to see. If it is indeed Nathan Drake’s model but was somehow used accidentally, and the developer promptly removes it from the promotional material when asked to do so, then maybe 28 Floors: Outbreak will be left up. At the same time, Sony may not give any leeway if it determines that something from its IP has been taken, and it could promptly remove the game from the PlayStation Store and ban the developer from the platform. For now, all fans can do is wait and see what happens with this horror game and the knockoff adventurer featured within it.

As for the real Nathan Drake and the Uncharted franchise, a new game remains unlikely. Naughty Dog has its hands full with Intergalactic: The Heratic Prophet, so it seems like fans will have to wait for the Uncharted movie sequel if they want to see the character in an official capacity.
