New Official Animal Crossing Release Confirmed for August 2026

Despite the massive enduring popularity of Animal Crossing, it has been over six years since Nintendo last released a new game in the series. Fans are justifiably desperate for new Animal Crossing content, and something new is set to drop in August 2026.

The most recent Animal Crossing game is New Horizons, which launched in March 2020. Due to the timing of its release, it proved to be a huge success amid global stay-at-home orders throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and was a big source of comfort for players during the challenging period. Animal Crossing: New Horizons was ported to Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year with the significant 3.0 update, which was somewhat surprising, given that the major patches for the game had largely stopped.

Animal Crossing Keychains Drop in August 2026, But You Can’t Buy a Specific One

Courtesy of Tomy, fans are getting some brand-new Animal Crossing keychains in August 2026. There are eight of them to collect in total, depicting some of the most iconic characters from the Animal Crossing series, including the likes of K.K. Slider, Isabelle, and Timmy. Each one is approximately 2.5cm, according to the manufacturer, making them very small but perfect for attaching to phone cases and keys.

Each Animal Crossing figure keychain costs $2, but it comes with a major catch: fans can’t buy the exact one they want. Instead, they must purchase a mystery keychain, which could reward any of the eight from the collection. Unfortunately, it seems that these Tomy keychains will only be available in Japan upon their expected August 2026 release, so it remains to be seen whether they come to the U.S. at some point.

There has been no shortage of Animal Crossing merch over the years, but this might just be some of the coolest yet. They’re a subtle way to display love for the series, so it would definitely be good to see them released in more countries in the future.

These keychains are cool, but they obviously pale in comparison to the potential of a brand-new game in the Animal Crossing series. Nintendo has been extremely quiet on the topic, and fans have had to wade through plenty of rumors about the next Animal Crossing game without anything coming to fruition. It should be noted that significant gaps between mainline releases are not out of character for the series, and given the success of the most recent game, it’s fair to suggest that a new one is inevitable.
