The Digimon franchise, specifically Digimon Adventure, is making a comeback on August 18. The first season of the Digimon anime, also known as Digimon Adventure, originally aired in 1999. It was an instant success and is still remembered fondly to this day, with various attempts to revive it through a reboot series, various sequels, and more. While there are some fans that prefer later seasons of the anime, many still hold the original Digimon Adventure as the peak of the franchise.
Digimon Adventure sees the DigiDestined transported to the mysterious Digital World, where they pair up with powerful monsters to fight enemies and try to make their way back home. The anime is full of iconic moments and memorable characters, some of whom will soon be appearing in the mobile game AFK Journey.
When is the AFK Journey x Digimon Adventure Collab?
AFK Journey is a free-to-play idle RPG that has won multiple awards since its original release in 2024. Like other live-service games, AFK Journey has seasonal updates and special collabs, with it next crossing over with Digimon Adventure. The AFK Journey x Digimon collab will see Tai and Matt added to the game alongside their partner Digimon, Agumon and Gabumon. Agumon and Gabumon will be able to Mega Evolve in AFK Journey, as the trailer for the crossover showed WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon in action.
The AFK Journey x Digimon collab is just the latest example of the classic franchise making a splash in the modern gaming world. Last year, Digimon Story: Time Stranger released to incredible sales and relatively strong reviews. A new Digimon Story: Time Stranger expansion is set for release in 2027, so fans of the franchise have that to look forward to next year.

Just recently, the mobile game Digimon UP was released, though it has received negative reviews. Like AFK Journey, Digimon UP is an idle RPG, so fans of the genre may still be interested in it. Digmon UP is free-to-play, so there’s no real harm in downloading it and coming to your own conclusions. Later in 2026, Digimon fans on mobile can look forward to Digimon Alysion, which is a digital version of the Digimon card game. Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket found a great deal of success in the digital card space (at least when it first launched), but the jury is still out on whether Digimon will be able to replicate it or not.
As far as “core” Digimon game releases on consoles, nothing is announced beyond the previously mentioned Digimon Story: Time Stranger expansion. Those more interested in the anime should note that the Digimon Beatbreak anime is actively airing new episodes, and an English dub is already available through Crunchyroll. A new Digimon anime series is expected to air in 2027, so the franchise is really showing no signs of slowing down. Fans can look forward to the AFK Journey x Digimon crossover coming on August 18 in the meantime.
