Halo: The Fall of Reach was the first-ever novel in the sci-fi franchise, released in 2001 as a prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved. 25 years later, it is still considered to be among the best Halo books, exploring the origins of series protagonist, Master Chief. The book leads directly into the events of Combat Evolved, making this audio drama great timing, given the upcoming release of the remake, Halo: Campaign Evolved.

Halo: The Fall of Reach is Getting an Audio Drama, Coming November 10
The Halo: Fall of Reach audio drama was officially revealed on Halo Waypoint, while publisher Simon & Schuster has it listed as releasing on November 10, 2026. This is just five days prior to the series’ 25th anniversary, a massive milestone. Tim Dadabo will narrate the Fall of Reach adaptation, while Steve Downes and Jen Taylor will reprise their roles as Master Chief and Cortana/Dr. Halsey, respectively. More casting news for the audio drama adaptation of Eric Nylund’s novel will follow in the coming months.

Because The Fall of Reach is one of the most iconic Halo novels, this isn’t the first adaptation of any kind. Back in 2015, Halo: The Fall of Reach received an animated series by Sequence, which was available as part of Halo 5: Guardians‘ Limited Edition. It speaks to the quality of the novel that it continues to be deemed worthy of new adaptations, even after 25 years.
It’s an excellent time for the audio drama adaptation of Halo: The Fall of Reach to be released. With Halo: Campaign Evolved launching on July 28, there is going to be a massive surge in interest in the original game and its narrative. Given that The Fall of Reach is so connected to the original game’s narrative, releasing the audio drama starring Steve Downes and Jen Taylor is an excellent way to bring fans into that story.
The future of the Halo franchise remains a mystery after Campaign Evolved. Halo Studios has yet to reveal plans for a new mainline game in the series, while rumors suggest that Halo 2 and 3 remakes could be on the way later down the line. After the struggles of Halo Infinite, hopefully the series can embark on a new era, starting with Campaign Evolved.
